Got a Speeding Ticket Today :(

I'd love to see you say that to his face...easy to say that from behind a computer....bravo...

my only question is which one of you is crockett and which one of you is tubbs?....i'm sure you guys are fine examples of why people generalize all law enforcement into corrupt trigger happy non thinking, well you get the idea. old saying goes if you can't do anything else, become a cop.

I'm sure he didn't mean it literally! Haven't we all gotten a ticket and then hoped the officer wouldn't show up in court?
Hoped he maybe had a bad cold or something that day??

I got nabbed 31 mph over. I got an attorney. Looks like I'll be on probation for 4 mos. If I stay "clean", charges are dismissed. Always get an attorney. Never confess to anything, w/out an attorney's advice.

edit: ask around for references for attorney...ask other attorneys who'd they'd get. get the best you know how to get

 

I got a pretty hefty ticket almost three years ago (not as bad as 74 in a 30, but not far off) and was charged in Colorado with both reckless driving and excessive speeding. Reckless was immediately thrown out on the grounds that, as you said, it was deemed that the act itself was not reckless (2am, well-lit tunnel, no other cars on the road) and charging me with both things for the same offense would have been double jeopardy.

For the record, I plea-bargained the remainder of the charges under advice of counsel and received a big fine and a few points, but I kept my license. I was 17 at the time so keeping my license was questionable since teenagers have such few points. That was in 2005 - I haven't had so much as a parking ticket since. Drive safely!

 

Kinda like your husband would never have told the officer that he hoped he would die? Yeah, that's what I thought. You must be stupid to make that comment without realizing the hypocrisy.

What have YOU accomplished that makes you so great? Some of the smartest people I have met are in law enforcement. With your disdain for police officers, who would you call if somebody broke into your house? Thought so. What about firemen, do you hate them too? And career military?

Anyway, has your husband let you drive his car yet? You must feel very proud that your own husband doesn't even trust you.

Have fun in court! Do you think he'll make you drive him around when the state takes away his license?

There are only two types of people out there, cops and criminals. Anyone who hates cops are criminals. Anybody who loves cops is a criminal hoping the cops will look the other way because a lover wouldn't break the law. Several members of my family are cops so don't bother. Cops and criminals that is all that's out there.

Most people think that all cops do is write tickets. All they know about law enforcement is from that they watch on TV. Well they don't have a clue, so they make stupid uninformed comments on forums like this.

Sure, like in any profession you have some lazy and not so bright people who in this case are completely happy writing tickets all day long. And the way I see a lot of people drive we need them too.

On the other side you have those who are true investigators on the street and behind the scenes. They know the ins and outs of the court and state attorney's office and their knowledge of the law would rival any criminal defense lawyer. They prepare court documents such as search warrants, wire taps arrest warrants etc... without the help of a paralegal or assistant.

So go ahead and vent your fustration here but as most intelligent people know that Law Enforcement in the USA has grown by leaps and bounds from the day you just gave a bad guy a rap with your nightstick. Those days of "if you cant be anything else..........................." are gone. Today Hundreds of "Qualified applicants" (Most are unqualified) fight for a handful of positions and the selection process is very stringent. Of course their are examples of some smaller departments that still use the "good ol boy system" but those are few and far in between. So don't lump cops all together in your ignorance.

and lastly..... i'm sure there as been a time when you've seen someone driving like a A** or even been cut off by one or worse...and you've said "I wish I was a cop and I would write that guy a ticket or where is a cop when you nned one? ......well guess what? you are probably that A** and you deserved to be cited. So get your lawyer, and go to court and perhaps you have learned a very expensive lesson.

 

This would be the system where I live in NY. Also there is not any crime there so all the police do is write tickets.

 

Let's see, a guy breaks the law by going WELL over the posted limit. A cop enforces the law by giving me a ticket. He complains about it and say they are lazy, stupid, etc., etc. Looks pretty clear to me who is at fault.

Let's also be REAL honest here - most of those folks "driving like a A**" are moms in minivans late for soccer practice. They're teenagers driving their parents' Escalade to the mall. They're tourists/immigrants/illegals who drive just like they would 'back home'....be it Mexico, Rio, Bombay, or Riyadh. Seldom do I see the REAL perpetrators get pulled - a Ferrari, however, is a rolling cash register and every cop knows it. The logic being- "why would a guy who drops $150,000+ on a car care if he has to pay a fine of $500 every once in awhile? That's lunch-money for the Ferrari-driving fat-cats, easy money, so I'll pull them over regularly and ignore that Soccer-Mom Escalade cutting people off on the highway at 90 mph...." It may seem like I'm generalizing, but I've seen it with my own two eyes, so......WTF?

 

REAL honest?? Are you insane??? Have you any clue as to were money from citations even goes? Ferraris speeding regularly--not where I live---maybe in South Beach---So what have you EXACTLY seen with your two eyes?? I guess you sat on a street corner watching tons of Soccer Moms drive by speeding while the officer waited for a Ferrari to drive by?? Get a freakin life!!! I live the police life EVERY day WonderBoy and that is being HONEST- you are 100% WRONG and completely off your rocker!!!!

 

Digressing here, which is always dangerous to do on FChat, but I sort of agree with M.James.... in a PC way though.....

In denver about 2 years ago or so, there was a mom with 4 kids in a suburban driving like crazy on I-70 just north of the city, cutting people off. Some drivers did call 911, but before the police showed up, she wrecked and killed her smallest child, a 6-month old. Now, I do feel bad for the mom, she lost her child. But, she did get jail-time of some sort since she was charge with vehicular manslaughter or something, which I think is justice.

I've been "drag raced" twice by TRUCKS!!!! Once by a pickup (late 60s with a souped up motor) and once by a turbo Dodge Ram. Both times I didnt respond, why would I? I guess they wanted to tell thier friends they "beat" a Ferrari.

So far, I havent gotten a ticket, but I know my Red/Tan car just screams "Ticket me".

Back on topic.....

I feel bad for the OP, and so far, he hasnt responded again. I hope he continues to contribute to FChat, but in a positive way. And, of course, Robbie ROCKS, so I apologize for the OP to you Robbie, thanks for the help that you've provided in the 355 section.

EDIT: Just read Robbies response to the above, and let me clarify on my red car/ticket me comment. I drive like a grandpa and so far I havent given anyone a reason to pull me over. Hopefully, I'll mind my "p's and q's" and not give anyone a reason to pull me over.

Here is my take on this topic and it looks like it is getting very 'heated'.

It is quite simple. You know you are speeding over the limit and you KNOW if you get caught you will get a speeding fine.

So if you are speeding in a Ferrari on a suburban street you are a fool. What you are going to do is cause an accident and kill yourself(OK because you are speeding) or kill someone innocent. Just becuase you are driving a Ferrari doesn't mean you are a Schumacher??

Unfortunatley someone speeding many years ago crashed into my wife and I head on.She was pregnant and as a result I have a child now with a disability. The person was speeding 35mk/h over the speed limit round a bend. Was a speeding ticket enough do you think??

When I drive my ferrari I do not speed in suburban streets.

In fact there is only one place I do and I do it every month and sometimes twice a month. On the racing track where I can only harm myself and nobody else.

I'm not saying ONLY Ferraris get ticketed, but you're being very naive if you think I'm going to buy your 'we don't do selective enforcement' schtick.....please. Issuing a teenager a speeding ticket is tough blow to such a small wallet and notoriously bad driving record. I would guess that if teenagers actually got ticketed for all the offenses they actually commit on the highway, most of them wouldn't have licenses and the impound lots would have 'um stacked ten high. Issue a ticket to some errant 'Mother' rushing to get her darling children to soccer practice? You wouldn't get sympathy from God himself....lol. Issuing tickets to Ferraris is genuinely regarded as the 'path of least resistance' when money is concerned. Society generally gives no sympathy to the exotic sportscar owner, so in the court of public opinion, its open-season on our over-indulgent butts. The board has seen countless threads on how speed enforcement stopped being about 'public safety' and is often used as a tool by local govts. for pure revenue generation - I guess you missed those, but I won't rehash. I have been passed, repeatedly, in my Ferrari, by minivans/SUVs/Landscaping Trucks towing trailers, etc. And I'm in fifth gear, mid-rpm range.....who gets the radar gun pointed at their car? Three guesses, oh hooded one.....I ain't mad, its just the game being played. I haven't been pulled yet, and maybe that's just they way they drive in Taxachussets...I dunno. Don't ask me to be blind to it, though. Or ask me to like it.
