The lock nut under the shift knob makes for uncomfortable shifting on my fingers. I gingerly 2 finger-1 thumb grasp the shift knob from the top during shifting and the lock nut digs into my fingers. I have tried other "grasp" styles and all produce some type of discomfort on some part of the hand/fingers. I have smaller hands, no monkey paws here.

I do not have this issue with the TR (don't have both here right now to compare), wondering if anyone else has this problem or am I a freakin' freak of nature?

I think I am going to cast a plastic "shroud" to fit over the nut to make a nice smooth surface.

    Tony.

Try to tighten the nut. Mine is out of the way.

Hi Tony - do you think it would be possible to machine a recess in the shift knob to allow the locknut to be recessed (with enough space to tighten)? You could get a spare to machine and keep the original undamaged. Is the locknut a hex? I've seen some shift knob locknuts that were round with a couple slots cut for tightening. I suppose another option would be locktight (type that could be undone if necessary). Just some thoughts..

    Problem solved.

I took the shift knob off to machine a new jam nut for it and found the jam nut currently on there was installed upside down. The bottom of the factory jam nut is rounded for comfort. Once I flipped the jam nut over and re-installed, no more problem.

    Thanks guys,
    Tony

I had to dremmel off the corners of the factory locknut even with it installed correctly (in order to be able to grip the entire shift ball without getting cut by the edges).

As for that gated shifter...sounds like something that is great for 'classic' Ferrari's from '60's, but every car mag review I've seen said 'well, the car was quick, but could've been much quicker around the track if not for that gated shifter'. F1 for the Ultimate FUN!!!! :D

Honestly, my next Ferrari will most likely be an F1. I hope by then they will have a sound effect speaker that makes the noise of the metal clanking as you make a perfect shift from 2nd to 3rd gears. Untill then, I'll have to take slower lap times :D

If I were to ever use an F1, it would have to be a 'track only' 355B stripped of all comfort amenities....... the track is where it would make the most sense IMO.... ;)

What exactly is the "+1" meaning anyway? I get that it means someone agrees, but what is it 'saying'?
I'm a member of lots of forums but have never seen this convention until this forum.

I think you have it... someone agrees.... add one more person to that thought/sentiment....
Bump = someone wants to bring the thread back in the spotlight.....

I don't know what IIRC means though..... ;)
