When all else fails, change the subject.

    P.S.

How is this for leading by example:

Nonesense. There are substantial legal requirements on giving radar tickets, and they are generally about the same throughout the entire USA. For starters: 1. the radar needs regular service, did it get it on a timely basis? 2. The officer needs to be licensed and trained, was he? 3. The roadway needs to have been surveyed, and the speed limit can't be below the 85 percentile of the medial speed shown in the survey, does the survey comply with the law?

I'm sure I could go on and on, but you see the drift. Don't give up on one of these. Generally the officers don't understand the various legal requirements, but most departments have someone to ensure compliance, but you know, not everyone is perfect, so there well may be a screw up in their documentation, and he may walk, if he takes the time to dispute the facts, and requires the officer to prove his case.

Would the original poster's admission on this forum that he was speeding by a considerable margin be admissable as evidence?

Nah, I wasn't trying to change the subject. I think it is great they get tickets for running red light. I think it is great they get tickets for passing a school bus. I think it sucks that it is only .000001% of the time they break the law. I really shouldn't comment on this subject as I don't have a subjective opinion. I have not once ever in my life had a positive experience with a police officer. It is most likely because of where I live, good ol'e boys. For the record, I do not have a single mark on my license or do I have any criminal record. I also treat any officer with the same amount of respect they give me and each one is different, none have been good.

Here is my latest example.... We had a tenant evicted. The tenant moved all of hi items off the property. There was a 10-15 year old truck with no plates on it in the hedgerow. This was on a Monday. When I came back to the property days later the truck and everything else the guy had at the house were gone and the keys were on the counter. The fridge and stove that belonged to me were also gone. called the tenant he said he didn't take them, worked out a payment plan with him for the judgment. A few days pass and I get a call from the State police. The Tenant is accusing me of taking his POS truck. The officer asks me and my wife to come down to the station. We go. Wait for an hour to speak with the officer, missing my next appointment. the officer come to the door of the waiting room and says she is ready. We get up to go in and she says ONE AT A TIME. I say NO both or we come back later with a lawyer. She makes us wait for another 1/2 hour implying that if we leave there is going to be trouble. We wait. She has us go back in to the conference room. We both give statements verbally. During the conversation she keeps cutting me off and telling me to shut my mouth. She threatens me that if I don't find the truck, like it is my job to do her job, she is going to arrest someone. I had to laugh, I say on what grounds. She tells me to shut my mouth. Then she has us write out a statement. before she does she insists we sit at opposite ends of the table so we are comfortable and have enough room to write. Here I am trying to help her and she treats me like a POS. I have never been treated like an equal by any officer I have ever dealt with. I am waiting for that day.I agree the officers have to be in control of a threat but if there isn't a threat they still have to be in control.

    My wife's last encounter

This just recently happened to me while I was driving through a small good ole' town. I was driving with my cruise control on at 29 mph (I've had way too many tickets and am in the process of fighting one currently - so I didn't need another for speeding) I was driving in my Porsche. A cop pulls up to me VERY quickly, so quickly I didn't even notice him until he was right on my bumper. I could not see his headlight, he was so close. I immediately pulled over to the side of the road, with my turn signal on. He drives by me extremely slow, I rolled down all my windows (b/c of tint - I wanted to make sure he knew I was not doing anything wrong inside the car). He turns on his lights waits for me to get just passed him and pulls me over. He comes up to the window and says, " Why did you pull over?" I replied, "Because I had brain surgery a couple years ago and if I get rear-ended in an accident I could die. I pull over for all tailgaters. I just figured you needed to be someplace faster than I needed to be to my destination." He says, in a very rude loud voice, "License and registration." I said, "I haven't done anything wrong." He walks around my car and comes back to the window and says, "You don't have a front license plate, I can give you a ticket for that." I said, that I bought the car in PA (no front plate required) and I had ordered the front plate bracket. I even had the cell phone number of the dealer I purchased it from and asked him if he wanted me to call the guy to confirm. Obviously, he said "it doesn't matter, I don't have it on right now." At that point, like Cairo said in a previous post, "All cops put their pants on the same way we do every morning," I decides to treat him just like I would treat any human being that was using a badge to try and empower the situation. I said, "So, you pulled me over because I was doing the law abiding right thing to do and would not allow tailgating, and you walk around my car to give me ANY ticket, just because you can? Do you really expect me to believe you have nothing better to do than drive around looking for people with no front license plate?" He replies, "Yup, just because I can." He walks back to his car, sits in his car for at least 10 minutes, comes back with the ticket and tells me to get the license plate on there. ( So, just to clear the air here, the cop already has my plate number, right? So there is no more need to tailgate, right?) I waited 8 minutes before pulling off the side of the road, I didn't want the cop tailgating me again. He waits with me. Finally, I pull out. He pulls out right in back of me, TAILGATING AGAIN!!!!!! I pull over to the side of the road 7 different times, he pulls in right in back of me with his light not on. (Mind you, this is after I told him of my brain surgery). Finally I pulled down a side road and into a driveway and waited for him to be out of view before pulling out and heading to my appointment that I was now late for. To make an extremely long story short, I called a reported him to his Sgt. I also mailed a description of what happened and a picture of my front plate on my car the day after the ticket was written to the Judge in the town, the Sgt, and the local paper, with the Deputies name in print (I checked the laws first to make sure I could do that).

I knew that there had to be a reason or reasons for your apparent distaste for law enforcement. Just remember that police are human beings: most are good, some are very good, a smaller number are bad or very very good, and a tiny minority are very bad. Don't lump everybody together because of some bad experiences. Heck, I ended up in jail for a few hours many years ago without much cause but that is a story for a different time and place (except to say that the charges were eventually dropped and the records sealed).

Nah .... To make an extremely long story short.... ROFLMAO :D

I won't give up. I am waiting for that positive experience. When I do have it, I will shout about it out loud.

I forgot to add that the tenant with the truck had been arrested just a week prior for stealing some motorcycles with a rollback he borrowed. Even a 5 year old could figure out where his truck was and that he took it hoping to make a problem for me because I filed a judgement against him. Great police work right there. :rollseyes

Good point Mike---Most overlook this. A few think the police are out there just to get them--they don't think about the lives we save, the robbers we catch, the murders we solve--just the ticket they got for doing wrong and getting caught, god forbid they step up and admit they were wrong--I blame the media and ignorance for this...

I've said it before---unless you have done the job, don't knock it. You don't hear people crying about plumbers, cable technicians, or the trashman---why---because most people reject authority figures, but everyone knows the LAW and THINKS they know what police officer deals with!!!

Oh I am well aware of this fact. I am always positive and polite everytime. I am still waiting for that in return. A condesending attitude IMO is not a positive experience for me. I always get the condesending attitude. Not once has the situation been something started on my end, not once. I have never been told to shut up by anyone in any business setting. Not at the post office, not at the grocery store, not at a resturant, not a plumber, cable technician, or the trashman. not ever. EVERY SINGLE person I know has been told to shut up, or shut your mouth, by the police. SAD!!!

Fact is if any other business treated the general public the way the police do the business would be bankrupt.

Again, not looking for browning points, but seriously, cops really need the respect of all of us, they have earned it and continue to earn it every day. Sure, I get pissed if I get a ticket, but its at myself for doing something stupid rather than the cops.

Dont take me as niave, I know there is some of the "hands washing hands" that goes on, but that goes on EVERYWHERE, you take the good with the bad.

I, for one, am glad to have the law enforcement officers around, because of what mike (aka cove26) said above, they are there to enforce the law, which we, as the people, create (directly or indirectly), and which were created to HELP all of us.

And BTW, if I was an officer, I'd be pulling my gun on EVERY traffic stop, its frightening to think you have people out there that will start shooting then ask questions later.

Very true, but then again, the police are NOT a business, they are a necessity for a peaceful government.

It's really not true. I don't have an attitude problem. Check me out on NSXPrime, somewhere around 5k posts. I have rarely have an argument with anyone. my wife and I have been together for 10 years and not once a disagreement. I really am not a jerk. I rarely ever raise my voice or get upset. I don't know what it is and I would agree with what you are saying because usually anytime someone has multiple bad experiences it is often that persons fault. if I had bad experiences all the time with the general public I would admit the problem is mine. It only seems to be with the police that this happens to me. And no I am not a snot to them either. You don't know me and have no reason to believe me but what I am saying is the truth.

As well my record is 100% clean, criminal and driving.

I must just have a threating face or something.

thank you. Not sure if training would do the trick but it sure would be a start.

In the last 5 years where I live in ny

State trooper, arrested for lifting a finger print from a glass at a restaurant table and planting it on evidence to frame someone. this cost the taxpayers millions

Captain of city police caught with 100k in stolen property he was selling for profit.

His replacement arrested for harassing his wife because she left him, he lent his car to a prostitute and the prostitute wrecked the car wife found out.

The DA had sex with two underage girls and video tapped it.

Another sheriff arrested for hitting and killing a man on a bicycle while in a police car AND DRUNK leaving a party.

same as above but in his personal car... lady died

Village cop caught smoking pot in the cruiser while on duty

An entire department caught overbilling on overtime by $250K+ dollars

Young City cops driving around blasting rap music from the cruiser.

Officers at the jail using inmates to remove asbestos without any protection.

This is all in small towns with a population less than 50k people. so its not one bad apple out of a bunch.

+2, our freedoms are going by the wayside. These types pf offenses used to be treated a lot more sanely 20 or 30 years ago. Now the soccer moms have swayed the powers that be and we are all expected to drive Honda Odyessy's. I am seriously thinking about moving to a country with a great driving culture like Germany.
