Did the 83 QV come with red valve covers?
NO. Someone must have sprayed them. The plenum and throttle bodies are red, but the cam covers are unfinished aluminum as are the cam belt covers. Red looks way better IMHO if done right. Spang
Mine has "red heads" aka valve covers. Everyone always says that none came from the factory that way. I think a few did, but its very rare. In my case, I'm 99.9% sure mine were painted because the color of red appears to be different from the plenum, which I would think would be the same if it was factory. However, I thought someone posted a one-owner / ORIGINAL owner car that did, indeed, have red valve covers. I cant be sure, but it was in a post here in the 308 section, and it wasnt that long ago, maybe 6 months. The thread was about special order cars, like the 308 with the dino wheels or the 308 with the custom dash (alcanthra or whatever its called) or maybe it was the one with the special interior...... cant remember. I've never cared for the red valve cover look. It's too much, IMHO. But then I don't like red calipers, targa, or lower panels either.
My PO did the red valve covers on my car, I think it looks ok. Luckily, it's a pretty close match to the plenum. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My '83QV valve covers show remnants of Cadmium plating or some such coloring. Very little is left after these years. But only the Plenum is red.
The only painted cam covers I know of are some early F* factory photos of the 308 engine with black wrinkle cam covers. I've never heard of red wrinkle cam covers from the factory. But then, if you paid F* enough extra $$, they'd do things like that for you...
