I have a 98 355 and have repaired the exhaust manifolds via QV London but now I have this metalic vibrating sound that gets worse after the car is warmed and is more pronounced when lifting off throttle. A friend thinks somethings obstructed but it has power and doesn't overheat. Any one have any ideas or experience similar problems.

The engine is a ticking time bomb. As your aware, the closer the time falls towards detonition, the louder the ticking? I prescribe you send me the car immediately and I will dispose of it for you properly. I would need the title though, DOT gets testy about that stuff. :)

Seriously, its probably something simple like a heat shield. Get some help looking the car over carefully before you drive it any further, and certainly not until you can determine the cause.

Welcome.......maybe heat shield...or you may want to look at the tips and other exhaust items that have been known to work loose and rattle.......

Not going to explode today, probably........LOL!

The rattle goes away if I lift the valve manually, I'm assuming when open. Now what are my options. I saw on E-Bay Caprista has a new four inlet muffler that does away with the bypass and saves your exhaust manifolds while giving you 20 more HP! Any suggestions? Thanks everyone.

The valve is there to generate low end torque, IIRC......I'd keep it....

Can you pull the thing and maybe redo the flap/shutter bearings????

If it is still working just noisy maybe that's possible?

Went with Franks thread and saved $1400. All done and sounds great.
    Thanks for the info.

LOL! True, but you'll be slower "off the line"......;)

Check with Daniel at Ricambi America for a real $$ on the valve or kit for it.......

If that involves wiring the valve constantly open, that is not a solution. You will get a "check engine" light from that. If you remove or disable the CE light, then you will never know if there is another failure in the system, since much more than just the exhaust valve can trip it.

Check some of the other threads, I recall Sport Auto, or someone can repair the exhaust valve. Also, it can sometimes be adjusted. From what I hear, if you adjust the turn buckle so the pressure against the valve when closed is greater, it will keep it from rattling. Worth a try. You will have to pop/pry the ball joint apart though, in order to make the adjustment.

This was a quick fix for now and will get it looked at when I get the big 30K service or sell whichever comes first.
