I had a look at a 355 GTS for sale in Sydney for $129,950 99 model with 42000 Kms Red with black interior Its a USA personal import converted to RHD, i was wondering if anybody knew if there are many other 355 LHD conversions in Australia. The interior is a little rough, centre console very sticky and the window switches/some console switches are broken. The brake rotors at the rear have been changed to cross drill disks but the front have not. Both of the roof buttress have cracks where they join the body. The body seems in reasonable condition appart from a few scratches and paint touch ups. There is no service history with car. Anybody have an idea of what a converted car should be worth in Australia, are there stories of steering problems etc with converted cars.
Chris, find the best Aussie-delivered RHD 355 in Sydney. They'll be asking circa $150K. There are plenty to choose from. Offer $120K. Leave your name and phone number, then walk away. You've got a better than even chance of getting a call back within a week.
hmmmm .. Incubus Incubus You wrote below that its a red on black yet the pics below clearly show they belong to a yellow car Infact a yellow GTS thats currently for sale by Autostyle. The yellow bonnet is clearly showing in the first pic. Do you have pics of the real red one you're looking at ? Or am i missing something ?
The $129K car is indeed red - I have previously discussed this vehicle with the dealer and a mechanic that has worked on the car and there seem to be a number of issues that have been/are currently being addressed. Was apparantly in a very poor state of repair when traded. Not one that I would bother with - too many issues.
A couple more pictures of the LHD converted 355 What you cant tell from the pictures are problems like rust around both side mirrors, stitching around instruments comming apart, paint touch-ups using the wrong red colour, dashbord air vents warped and refixed using extra screws, one of the catalytic converters has melted and problems with the accelerator cable. But step back 6 feet and its a beautiful looking car as all F355's are!! For $100000 I would be very tempted Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Surely those are "famous last words" this car would end up being a money pit, and for an extra $30k you could get an aussie complied car thats better, and for that matter able to be sold far more easily? but thats just my opinion, im sure others will chime in.
for an extra $30k you could get an aussie complied car thats better Ive been looking but there dosnt seem to be many Red/black 355 gts manuals around.
i guess its just timing. there were a couple about 6-12 months ago being advertised in the region of $159k, so of course after a bit of haggling they wouldve come down a fair bit. i guess with cars like this, you have to be patient. When i initially got interested in Ferrari's back in 2002, i wanted a glass 308GTB, and the only one i found in over 12 months was in melbourne in Azuro (which incidentally is the only colour i would refuse to own), so after about 15 months of frustration i ended up buying an elise. however after that, ive seen quite a few glass GTB's sell, so i guess its a matter of either 1: Being patient 2: paying above the odds for one by making an owner an offer 3: settling for something thats perhaps a different spec, but still as good a car but thats just me. i guess in life there are no short cut's. you get what you pay for. just wouldnt want anyone to end up with a very expensive headache.
Thats the trouble mate, for a manual red/black GTS, you may be waiting a while. There is currently a GORGEOUS yellow/black 355 GTS for sale on carpoint for $160K. http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/FERRARI/F355/New%20South%20Wales/csn5032294.aspx
Is that 355 for sale at motor gallery burwood sydney. if so i have looked at it. Its a absolute pig and you can tell it has been neglected. trimming is thrashed, car has had paint work around roof. worth $100k.as you need to be prepared upto 20k to get car to look half decent.
Just came across this thread. I know this car by the number plate and hence if you buy it even at $100K then be prepared. You will have to spend in excess of $50K to get it to a satisfactory state. The fact that is a private import that has been converted is a big draw back for the future. Don't ask me how I know this car is not good. The Ferrari world is quite small in Australia and you can find out a lot of things about an F-car if you know the right people. There are plenty of cars on carpoint/carsales/drive that would make you happy.
Oh hey, more threadcromancy! For anyone wondering who Incubus is - his was the Boxster that played a good part in some nice footage for the 2005 Exotics in the Outback run. Him and me and his car can be seen at the start of this clip, and in various in-car shots throughout: ---> http://aussieexotics.com/videos/motor-magazine-photoshoot-3690 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There was a red GTS on ebay around 6-12 months ago that didn't get a bid and upon further investigation had been rebuilt after fire damage - possibly the same car?
had a fairly long chat with one of the guys from motoro city and they are busting their ass to sell this car.....he even said they have spent quite alot on it already as it wasn't in good shape when it was traded in....
Fire damage as well. Wouldn't surprise me. This thing is full of surprises. I saw it advertised 4-5 months ago for $160Kish (same dealer). A mate went and had a look and was told nothing about RHD conv or fire damage. (he did not pick the conv or any fire damage). Was told he could have it for 150K. So how long was it trying to be sold ? I guess everything has a price..........eventually.
This car was not fire damaged. Only converted as a private import. As I said before in this thread I know the car, the problems it has, the people that have worked on it and even the price the dealer paid for it. It was not traded. Don't ask me for the details or how I know. All I am saying is it needs a lot of work to the engine in particular to get it going properly with no issues.
