After 32yrs grafting I'm taking some time-out and bringing the family to Oz for 4 weeks, probably around 24th Feb. I need some help & advise.

    1. I want to take in the F1 on 16th March and would like to know which is the best seated spot on the circuit? Brabham vs Jones maybe.
    2. Where would be a good spot for the family to bunk down a few days prior so I can get a bus/tram into the circuit?
    3. Should I buy my tickest via a UK agent or is there someone you could suggest?

    4. The vacation is in its early planning phase so any suggestions for places to visit greatly appreciated, probably fly into Melbourne and take-in the
F1 at the start of vacation.

    Thanks in advance.
    Mike.

Best seats??, well depends what u want to see, down the main straight is good.

    2/
Anywhere in the many city hotel/motels, its only a short/quick tram ride down Clarendon Street to the track. Some may have courtesy bus service, i believe Ferrari stay at the Hyatt.
Best you book now, room and prices will be at a premium.

    3/
Lot of times you can buy tickets to events cheaper o/s than where the event is held.

    4/
Melbourne motor show is on at that time, google-google-google is your friend, i dont think u will have a problem in finding things to do.If you have females with you send them of to Chaddy [Chatstone Shopping Centre] credit-card melt down...LOL

U will like it here, we drink cold beer though, dont worry u will get the hang of it.

ps Pity your not here now, need a knowledgeable person on Mondial's, going to check one out on Saturday...

    Ciao

Because the pound is so strong, you may want to consider buying a syndicated ticket in a box. They are about $1700 for the 4 days. With this you get all the food and drink you can handle and it is under cover. From my experience these are really good, particularly if it is hot or raining.

A website I use for accomodation in Oz is http://www.not1night.com.au/

If you have your family you may want to consider using a serviced apartment. You can then at least cook your own meals.

If you want to check out the location of the place use this website http://www.streetdirectory.com.au/sd_new/home.cgi or I guess you could use google.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

There are a number of 5* hotels literally accross the street from the track.

Buy the tickets through the AustGP website. Easiest way.

Melb was voted the world's most livable city quite for a few years. Tons of things to do. You have to be selective, since it's so much - what do you like?

F1 paddock club is around $5000 for 4 days . best seat IMHO , pit walk , see the cars come in for a pit stop etc . includes booze / food .

if you're from OS , then do it the easiest / best way , you don't want to be far away from the gate entry , if it rains , it will be ****house etc .

if coming from that side of the track ( gate 1 for the F1 paddock club) via tram , stay at the grand , tram stop is across the road , very easy .

Thanks for the tips and yes I'm bringing two women!
My missus is a shoppa-holic and my daughter is catching up fast.
We've always talked about moving to Oz but this is the first chance we've had to really get see what's on offer and hopefully to catchup with my best man who emmigrated to Sydney back in 1981.

fangio stand, and then you can go anywhere else except for corporate stands. we only sit in the stand for qual and race. spend practice at other corners and sections etc.
travel agents have a monopoly on the hotel rooms at over inflated prices.
google apartments in melb. and put in the dates. we found 1bedroom apart for $200.00 a night. it's on the edge of the city. still an easy tram ride or cheap cab fare. "nova stargate" right next to the queen vic markets is where i've found at a reasonable rate. if you want to go 5start looking at upwards $400.00 a night.

ticket thru www.ticketek.com.au if you don't care where you sit in a stand. you'll just get allotted something. out the bank of fangio is fun. heaps of picnic tables and umbrella's (for the heat and the rain) and big screen to watch everything else going on if you don't want to sit in your seat the whole time.

    or
www.grandprix.com.au there is a pdf file there somewhere which has a plan of the stands/section letters and rows etc.
    have a look there first.

    good luck

Heh, I often wondered about that... It's like a bunch of straight guys voting whether watching 2 girls or 2 guys get intimate is better.

    ---> http://aussieexotics.com/forum/off-topic/most-livable-cities-t500.0.html

Having said that, I think Adelaide is fantastic for everything you need, but I'd like to live in Melb and Syd for more than a few months to get a real gauge on them.
