Was talking to the guy that built the twin turbo BB that has 870hp, it did 144mph in the quarter and he said the BB differential is strong, it is held together via bolts its the TR diff that weak as its welded. They mated the TR motor to a Boxer diff for the car

Anyway on to my BBLM look project, 13x15" rear wheels next

Wrong, the BB carrier is the same as the TR, the carrier starts its life as a open ended tube which they weld one end shut on and the other is bolted so they can install the clutches and differential gears inside it. The welded end is where they break, the aftermarket ones are machined as one piece with just 1 bolted on end. The 512M has the one piece one as well. making a quarter mile pass means nothing, its on borrowed time.

Well Norwoods told me different, he has owned over 25 BBs personally and builds P4 replicas with the motors and trans so I think he would know, the diff is bolted together on the BB not welded, its still together on this 800hp monster BB which should say something and they have driven the car hard

Then you misunderstood him, all you need to do is go back through the threads here, 365BB's fail most due to the welded design. The 512BB design is an improvement in that the ring diameter was changed apparently but the carrier was still welded. It wasnt until the 512M that ferrari used up the crap units that they started using the good ones.

Newman is right. My 365BB carrier is on the bench at the moment and its welded. Replacing it as a matter of course with an updated one whilst the box is in bits for a rebuild.
