PHOENIX -- Arizona officials are investigating after a Lamborghini Murcielago was seen on YouTube allegedly going 219 mph on the Red Mountain Freeway in east Mesa.
The car is owned by a former Phoenix dentist, KPHO-TV in Phoenix reported.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials called the incident an "extreme violation of the posted speed 65 mph speed limit."
The video, which has been yanked from the Web site, showed the vehicle attempting to break the car's previous top speed of 171 mph on a freeway traveled by hundreds of thousands of motorists every day.
"To do it in the middle of the city at 220 mile an hour -- that's crazy, in my opinion," said Brian Kern, a Phoenix resident.
The driver's face is never seen in the video, but he describes how he could have gone faster if there hadn't been other cars in the way.
"I travel this very stretch of freeway daily, and many times late at night just at the times this clown is racing, and what if it was me that he didn't see?" asked a KPHO-TV viewer by e-mail. "I don't really want to die."
Near the end of the clip, the man challenges someone to top his record, a statement that produced chills for one Phoenix motorist.
"I take my son to day care, and we have to drive over that way," said Kimberly Green.
Attempts to track down the Lamborghini owner at his Phoenix mountain home were unsuccessful. E-mails and phone calls went unanswered.
One person associated with the video, an Arizona State University student named Aaron who didn't give his last name, also refused to talk about the video.
After the student was told that the incident was under investigation, the video disappeared from YouTube, the television station reported.

Rob himself said the video includes sped-up footage, and video spliced in from a track.

Did his speedo (inaccurate at the high end) really read 219? Sure. Was it on a public road? Nope.

Yeah I was reading up on that on the Tri-state section. Sounds pretty fake to me too. I also remember when I was reading Motortrends article about top speeds, the Murci couldn't even reach 200.

Personally, I think they are making a big deal out of it especially the freeway was pretty much empty. He might be out of control, but he knows when to let off the gas. Maybe he was going a little fast, but all those worries? How about if a 18 wheelers loses control going at 60MPH? We will probably die too.

Blackwood: I think his challenge was to have someone driving 21.9MPH and Adobe Premier it to look like going 200+.

Dilancer: Murcie couldn't reach 200? Is that a challenge? HAHA.

Lambo speedos are known to show an inflated number at top end. I had a speedo read 204 once in a BASE model 2005 Gallardo. We called it the green goblin, it was scary fast.

lol. No doubt. And he has plenty of video equipment from his... line of business.

Yah. All roadcar speedos lose accuracy at the high end, and I can't think of one that doesn't overstate speed.

Here's the link......looks real enough, but I don't know much.

Those quotes from citizens are ridiculous; but finding out the lp640 actually goes that fast is also ridiculous.

Personally, I think this Rob guy did all the LP owners a huge favor. Not only they don't have to find out the top speed themselves plus they can now outright brag about their car can go nearly 219MPH and not many can argue with that!

After viewing the video it seems that the light poles at the shoulder of the freeway are not going by fast enough... you would think that at 200mph + those poles would be a blur.... something doesn't ring true here although how did he get his trip readout to register 219? Hmmm?
