Thanks for the heads up. I am going to dig a big sump and cement it so a built in tank is not necessary

I would install one below the turning table with a covered opening in the turning table to access the pump.

What's your garage floor level compared to the street level?

Floats (low for the primary pump and high for the secondary pump) and water sensors (in various places) are connected to the alarm system. No need to get the turntable off as it has a drain to the sump. You are right - I hope to never lift it. That would be a major task

    DM18,
When your garage is completed and 'stocked' I suggest a group of us here on the forum make a pilgrimage to HK to meet you and view your collection!! Well I for one would be honored to do both so just incase I've started my 'vacation fund' for just such a trip.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend,
    Gregg

Well I would be honoured to host Fchat friends but quite honestly it is way too far from HK to Texas to see a small collection of cars that you can easily see close to home. Vacation funds should be used for beaches!

Don't spend that fund just yet. I have a better idea: we head over there complete with champagne to celebrate the conclusion of the garage's construction. That way it gives us an excuse just for going.

Great idea but I'm most likely the Fchat member in the LOWEST income bracket here, at the moment, but I rank my passion for anything and everything Ferrari at the highest of level's. Maybe I should start an eBay bidding war for my trip expenses LOL!! j/k

OK now back on topic, sorry DM18.

Just wanted to add my voice to the caution about lifting a active suspension car ... Never Lift the F-40 that way .. the sensors that determine ride level will get damaged and the car will handle like a pig ... The project looks amazing .. Wish you luck!!!

Salman I don't think so. F40 has very conventional suspension. It predates active suspension by many years. Lifting the car to take the weight off the suspension during the 3 or 4 months when I can't use it because of rainy season is very good for the car and tyres. Letting it sit is not so good

Congratulations DM18. I was in HK 4 months ago, really loved it there, but it was so hot! I love the mix of asian and occidental culture in HK. I liked the nightlife a lot. When I was there, I was always wondering if there are nice roads (not on HK Island but in the Mainland) to go for a drive during week-ends?

Driving in HK is much better than most financial centres. Traffic moves quite well most of the time. There are great roads on Hong Kong island and the New Territories. You cannot take a HK registered car to China (the Mainland) unless the car has a China plate. The roads in China are fantastic

To say you are unemployed you sure as hell get around a lot :D

Just spotted this thread and it puts mine into perspective when I thought I was being extravagant putting white ceramic tiles on the floor and buying a new tool chest!

Never been to HK but with the new job in January I should be coming out there about 4 or 5 times a year en route to visting suppliers in China. I have a very limited idea of what to expect but quite looking forward to it!

    :)

Funny that you should say this. I am at the airport lounge now on my way from HK to LA, Miami, Cayman and NYC in the next 4 days before a vacation in Hawaii. I was in Sydney last week. I am really tired of traveling right now.

I do feel a bit extravagant. But there is little choice in HK if you prefer to live on HK Island and the Southside in particular. Even USD15mn townhouses are likely to have 2 semi-outdoor carspaces. I love the New Territories where I could get some land but it is not convenient for my family. I need some private space for my cars, bikes and art. I enjoy tinkering. I am also hoping that my son will enjoy spending time doing guys stuff - taking apart, building, making a mess, learning how things works, etc.

I am very excited to be buying professional calibre tools, air compressor, etc. I have a huge box of assorted screwdrivers that never seem to be the perfect one. It will be such a pleasure to have exactly the right tool!

You are very fortunate to be in a position to start to spend time in this part of the world. I hope your new job works out well. China is tough in places but unbelievably fascinating.

I will be coming out for about a week, maybe 10 days at a time, so quite a good timescale to get my bearings without being away from home too long.

I will try and make sure that I get a day free in HK each trip before the flight back. It is a part of the world that I have never had any desire to visit really but I am fairly sure that this viewpoint will be proven wrong.

I'm in the process of completing my hanger, which will hold a few of my cars. It's 44 x 40, so the plane has plenty of room, and it will hold at least 3 cars. We've painted the floor an expoxy white, and will be putting in insulation. Should be done by the end of January, will post pics.

After some sound advice from Fchat brothers I endeavoured to order battery tenders from Deltran. I was happy to see that they have an international model which is exactly what I need. Website would not let me order and requested that I call which I did. I was advised that they have a distributor in Germany who I contacted. He tried to charge double the price or more of what Deltran charges direct. When I questioned him, he said "those are my price". No problem Dude, keep your stock. Contacted Deltran again. Tried to order and was advised that they won't ship outside of the US because they experienced fraud in the Philippines.

I asked them, why make an international product line if you prefer not to sell to us shifty dodgy foreigners???

Simple solution my overseas Fchat brothers, myus.com gives you a US address and handles onshipping. Fantastic service. (I am in no way affiliated).

If anyone knows anyone at Deltran please tell them their policies are beyond stupid and send them a "W" bumpersticker in case the one on the back of their Ford pick up truck wears out. W's famous quote, "Most of our imports come from overseas" could be paraphrased for Deltran, "Most of our international line is sold overseas"!!!
