To see that price puts the idea out there that it can happen. Lots of Dino's prolly priced high in the years before they started to rise for real.

Go buy a 60,000 mile 308 thats taken a swim in Katrina, with 12 owners on the VIN for 30K

Then do what everyone else does, paint it at Macco....do the interior yourself with sub standard leather and do the belts and call it a driver.

The reality is, and this is no offense to my 308 brothers. You cannot compare a car like this for 75K (so he is asking) to a car like most have here.

First off, 2 different buyers, a guy looking at this 75K most likely has more than one ferrari or exotic.

Second, you take your average of the mill 308 for 30K, do a proper paint job (currently) you need 10K-12K. Do the interior correctly, with all the switches and rugs, you need another 10K.....you still havent touched a motor or anything else yet and you touched 50K on a 308.....plus, and you still have a 60,000 mile car.

Its a matter of choice...what is realistic to you, is not realistic to someone else.

Just because you aint the buyer, doesnt mean their isnt one out there, or 2.

So, yes you are negative, not realistic.

I just hit 10,100 miles on my 76 glass, all documents to prove its mileage and history and 1 family ownership since day one.
The correct books and warrenty cards alone are close to 5K on the 308 now(Certain models)

I think that's a great car. You guys can search for the next century and not find a bigger champion of the 2Vi's than me. That's my all time, hands down, case closed, favorite car - NOT just favorite Ferrari but favorite car, period. Of anything.

I just have seen waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much bull**** with the milage on these things over the past 26 years that I have been following them - First hand. I have seen it all with my own eyes and I have spoken at length about it on this site for the past 6 1/2 years.

It has been enough to make me doubt it all. I mean it. It is THAT bad.

Now, having said all that, a 308 is far more likely to have the genuine 3K before an 80 Toyota Supra. Maybe this is the real deal. I hope so. It would be nice if it was.

 

The interior really made me believe it was real. A dozen little things that just looked fresher or just better than any 308 i've ever seen. Car was owned by a car dealer in New England and kept at the house down in St. Simons FL. The husband died and the wife kept the car in the garage for years 'till finally selling it at the nearby Amelia Island Concours.

That was the story the owner told me,

 

I sold a black 308 gts 1980 yesterday at $46900 . The car is going up in price 308 guys!!!

These people were collectors and closed the deal immediately,they hardly examined the car to much either.They even inspected the car in the late evening light.They only looked at its originality throughout.I had a prety good example 3 owners 38000 miles.

They also quoted that if it were red they would of paid more!.
Their is one at 39000 euros ($53820) for sale and it has 60000 miles herev in Italy,
if you visit ebay france www.ebay.fr their are quite a few over 40000 euro (over $55200) and atleast 3 examples at a high 45000 euro ($62100) .I saw this last week.

The 308 is a fabulous car and I even felt bad letting it go.I know I will regreat it in the future when these cars hit high bucks.

 

Congratulations on the sale, Im in Europe as well and its not the same market in the US. 2v-i cars are simply not bringing that kind of money. 328's do. QV's are still avail routinely in the mid or higher 30's in USD.

 

10 years from now , buyers will consider $75k a steal for a nice, low mileage(under 100k) 308.
Every year more are lost to accidents, poor maintenance, radical mods, rust etc, that really nice examples are getting rare. Just try to find a good one, 6 months is about typical, doing a nation wide search. That's how long it took me 2 1/2 years ago. (I almost gave up)

 

correct, finding a 308 is easy but a clean one is tough. Spending $100K to restore one is realistic so either you spend it or settle with a so-so driver. Those are the only two options and they're only getting older so a resto is unavoidable.

 

As much as i agree with the both of you....95% of Fchat does not.

But, but, but....you can save THOUSANDS if you buy from these reputable folks. They say so! They even post their terms and conditions twice just to make sure you get it all!

This car listed for 39kUSD. This is a nice car and appears to be well maintained. Thats the US market in a QV. If he paid less then thats very interesting. Far less than the price paid you for the not so popular in the US, 2v-i cars. Its appears to be a different market as I stated. Your car is close to a 87 328 in USD. Not all prices translate in all markets. The Euro cars need much to be US legal.

 

I'm not sure if you were replying to me,but a 308 QV is around 38000 euros here.Thats around $6000 U.s more than my sale price.But I think its hard to sell .Its very hard to find a 308 carburettor for sale but all the ones I seen were way above my price and in far worse condition.(I'll attach photos of mine below)

A 208 intercooler (which has a 328 body with extra naca air intake low near rear wheel ) and 328 are very easy selling at 35000 euro to 40000 euro.
Alot of 328 here in Italy are reaching the 55000 euro.
Not sure about final sale price, I still think 40000 euro is the go for a 328.

See? It's not just me. It's "95%" of the people in this Ferrari community - by your own words. That's pretty much everybody.

Besides your 308 doesn't count anyway. It's the best and rarest of the series. My eyes are on the 78-85 cars. It will be a long time before those values exceed normal inflation. Will they ever? I hope so because there is one in my garage. I just think it's going to be much much less than what we saw the 246 do.

Spiderseeker makes a valid point about the next decade and why. Buy remember my observation of the LAST decade in an earlier thread that I started. Nothing changed between 97 and 07 at all with respect to value. In fact values actually decreased. I started that thread when I celebrated my 10th year of ownership. It was based on my experiences and observations only.

We'll just have to wait and see...

Orlando thank you. The carb cars are a different breed. Very nice sounds as well. 328's are nice cars and have an element of reliability that is good. I think in the long run they might be more valuable for that reason. They are not as pretty as a 308 and the dimensions are larger, but there is enough similarity with generation and a bit more power in the 328 to make up for that loss of nostalgia. Congrats again on the extraordinary sale!

 

I have to agree with you. Those are realistic prices around here for 328's. I know that nice 328's are selling for around 40~45000 euros, and the general feeling is that the prices will go up, just maybe not as much as a Dino did in the last 10 years. And GTB's would be a bit more !
During my search most people mentioned the reliability and much lower production numbers when compared to the 308 series ... time will tell.

 

Thats because 95% of fchatters dont own fcars and can barely afford to even buy and maintain a 308 at 50k...

I said around here, not the ferrari community.

How many posts over the last few years have we seen "I want to Purchase a Fcar" ....as soon as someone mentions 50K, the next question is, what can i get for 30K ? I will fix it while i go.....or, maybe i am 3 yrs away from owning one.

Yes he is so just bug him about his worn out TR and his rusty rockers on the glass 308. Dont let that bald weenie get you down. My 308 was in need of serious attention when I got it and I have no regrets.

Truthfully almost ALL of my early cars found ME not the other way around, except the very first one.

Long term owners, careful care, I truly felt the passing of a torch when I picked up the last two, one was even titled to Ed Hodel's Trust.......

So truthfully, I have just become a custodian and do the best I can from that perspective.
