What is the go with the number plates that are just a picture of a crown? Shiney on a black surface. I assume they are government, or commonwealth? I have seen three different holdens this week with them, in brisi. I have only seen two others before.

I figure they may be around here more for K-Rudd? Are they exempt from road laws? I heard rumor that there is three or so cars in Aus that are exempt from laws in special circumstances?

It's not just the GG but also the Governers as well. I was crossing North Terrace in Adelaide, where the Governer's residence is, and the first car at the traffic lights was a black Caprice with those plates. You could clearly see the Governer in the back reading papers etc.

Don't know about them being exempt from road rules though, it isn't like they have an escort and stop traffic for them etc. I live in England from time to time and you get used to seeing police motorcades and special cars. Usually the royals, you are walking down the street, a bunch of police bikes stop everyone and Prince Charles goes burning by in a Range Rover, but also the large number of heads of state that they have visit.

Police cars can only become exempt from road rules when acting under the provisions of an emergency vehicle and sounding a siren, bell or repeater horn.

They must evoke emergency vehcile regs when on an actual call which entails an emergency, and that doesn't meana going to Mc Donalds.

If they have an accident whilst evoking emergency vehicle regs and there is no emergency, then they get hung out to dry and can be charged in an open court.

Journalists love it when that happens.

This was taken at a function I attended at Government House in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago. As I said earlier this is the Governer's car, which is a new Holden Caprice.

Interestingly the Lord Mayor still had a previous model Caprice with private license plates, although this could be so that he can legally use the car for personal use as I have a privately plated government car for this reason with the benefit of free fuel, tyres, service and registration.
