After Prodrive did not make expired week confessed officially will take part in 2008, in the world championship formula 1 turn the rumour mills on full to go for a ride. The newest rumour that goes in the paddock is that Volkswagen want take over possibly the licentie of Prodrive to make its entrance in the formula 1 this way in 2009, or 2010.

This speculation is fed by the fact that ex formula 1-coureur Joachim Stuck for the German car manufacturer have been appointed as a ' engine sport Representative '. Stuck are nearly each Grand Prix present because he looks after comment for the German television.

At its new job at Volkswagen he management will provide activities of the German car manufacturer with recommendation in strategic area concerning the engine sport. Year earlier this Volkswagen made also already its entry in the formula 3 euro serials.

Do you have the source text for this? Might be easier to read than this babelfish nonsense.

Glad to see Strietzel come back and kudos to VW for running with the big boys. Although I believe it when I see it.

    Lol, same here :D

@topic: The question is, under which brand would Volkswagen compete? VW, Skoda, Seat? Surely not. Audi? Maybe, but Audi is focussed on the Le Mans Diesel cars. Lamborghini? No F1 history. Porsche?!

Why not just as VW? They have some advanced and sporty cars in their range.

I hadn’t heard of the Prodrive bid but, it make some sense. The Stuck they’re talking about is Hans Stuck (as he’s known here in the U.S.). He’s been associated with BMW for a very long time and has driven for Audi and Porsche. VW is the fourth largest automobile maker in the world and I’m sure Bernie would love to have them join the club.

I see their future car portfolio going more back in the 'normal' range. No Phaeton or Veyron experiments anymore with Winterkorn. If Peach was still at command I'd say: Yeah, they will. But bringing out new economic and especially ecologic cars and entering F1? I doubt it.

It would be interesting to see VW in Formula 1, but I think the area that they have the best ability to provide improvement to the sport is with smaller displacement diesel motors with turbos, and with the engine freeze, I don't know how much they would benefit from having a team in F1 as opposed to Le Mans endurance racing, etc. But it would still be good to see them in.

I think that would be really cool to see VW taking part in some serious racing. They did have drawings of an Audi formula one car. http://www.gpjunkie.com/images/audiF1.jpg (sorry I don't know how to post pics)

I'm not sure if you mean 'sucessful history' or 'any history of actually paticpating' but just to make note that they did contend between the years of 1989-1993 (f1.com).

I think this is very unlikely now that porsche has got control at VW.
They are keen to turn VW into a big money spinner and not start wasting funds on motorsport or adventurious R&D exercises (like Veyron).

May be Alesi who lost out to Prodrive will pick it up ?

I have become very sceptical of the prodrive boss. I am not sure David Richards will succeed at Aston... time will tell.

So that means Porsche in F1. Cool :)

PS - It won't happen if Wiedeking has anything to say about it unless results can be seen on the bottom line.

After test driving a 2002 Boxster S a few months ago I can say that car certainly deserves to wear the Porsche crest. I was thoroughly impressed by it. It's closer to the company's racing heritage than say the Cayenne, which even by the factory's admission is a cash cow.

I prefer to see Porsche racing sports cars rather than formula cars. To me it would be odd for Formula 1 to be without a Ferrari but it would be even odder to have a LeMans without any kind of Porsche racing in it.

While I would love to see VW in F-1, I doubt it will happen... The Porsche Family own the maximum allowed by German Law, and F-1 has Burned Porsche as a team before... they are better in endurance racing... and it matches the marque.

I WOULD LOVE THE BUGATTI NAME to come back to F-1 ... it would add more glamor, but again why do that ... what could it possibly do for VW? unless they come out with more Bugatti models that are marketed at less than $1.5 Million USA.

Lamborghini? maybe? Seat? who knows .... I for one vote for Bugatti... and even though Piech is not actively at the helm ... he is still Ferdinand Porsches grandson.... and Ferry's nephew... so I'm sure Porsche would not want to spend money on nothing.

The so called "VW law" doesn't exist anymore. For those of you who don't know, it was a relict from the post war time when VW became a private company and the state wanted to keep control over it, the law basically stated that no shareholder could overrule Lower Saxony (to which VW belonged), even if he owned the majority of the shares. Porsche is at the moment trying to gain control over more than 50% of VW.
