He did it! By George, he did it! Some people say that the modern F1 cars are ugly and long for the looks of days past. But i gotta say- that is one swanky looking car! Good on Wolfgang!

    Thanks guys,

Yes, Schumi was testing with front wheel covers.
That model was scratch built and so far I did not make these FW covers.
Actually, the look ugly to me!

The second version I built, will be from the latest Tameo kit (China version)
On that model, I may have front wheel covers.
I will also have the original Schumi Helmet with HANS and his new design he was using during testing.
    No Schumi figure available.

    Wolfgang

The front wheel covers are not covers...they are air intakes and remain staitionary when the car is rolling. I am in the process of completeing a series of the car and here are my modifications prior to paint. The shark wings in front of the cockpit are also splayed back quite a bit. The "slots" on the side pods are actually bent in on the real car to direct air. In this case I had to fabricate them out of brass sheet. The "bump" forward of the antenna is also void. These are going to customers so I can't rush the process...everything has to be as close as possible, including the ugly front air intakes ;)[machined from aluminum]. The rear covers, as well as front intakes will have BBS wheel stencils overlayed.

I like what you did BTW... especially the steering wheel out, it really shows off the detail. I just wanted to point out the changes. I have to do this for a living and trust me...if it ain't right, I don't eat.

Very nice paint job, did you use Candy-Apple red? What type of clear coat are you using?
The clear red I was using did not match to well to the real car.
I just ordered some Candy-Apple red, so I will dry it on my next version.
I suppose you’re placing the very fragile mirrors on, when the model is completed.

I used a fine aluminum over a grey primer and Tamiya clear red thinned with laquer thinners, built up slowly 2-3 coats. Yes, the mirrors and wings will go on during assembly, they caused me a real headache the first time when I had them in place during paint. I use a knock off clear coat similar to Dupont Chroma Clear [like Glasurit] but thinner.

The new Tameo China version, has all the modifications including the front air intake covers. As for the red paint, I have to dry the same your doing, by thinning the paint and use 2-3 light codes. Keep posting photos as you move along!

Well done! I had to "stencil" mine with paint and had no BBS decals. How did you do yours?

Ahhh...I suspected that ;) They are accurate but look a little "stark" on the car at that scale. Mine did too so I did a light black overspray to tone them down a bit.

Actually, they look more like the wheels from 1/87 "MATCHBOX" play toy. Hope Ferrari goes back to the standard wheels next season!

That's why I toned them down...so they don't attract too much attention ;)
