Hey Guys, Got a job offer in LA off W Goldleaf Circle. Looking at some young, new, hip areas to live. I have been looking at the south park area and like what I see! Are there any other areas such as this? Thanks! Steve
I personally think downtown is going to be a lot of fun in the next few years. High rise condos are popping up everywhere and they're trying to make downtown more like Manhattan. Now if they could just allow bars/clubs to stay open longer, they'd be set. If you're not fond of parking hassles, traffic, etc - I work and live in Redondo Beach and agree that the beach cities are great. If I worked in downtown LA though, I'd hate the commute. Welcome to LA.
Hey all, I'm actually from Seattle's Redondo Beach, but I am interested in moving down to LA for a job as well. Aren't Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan all pretty close to one another?
I'd vote for Orange County (Corona Del mar or the Orange hills) but Palos Verde is a close second and definately closer.
Santa Monica. It's only about an hour's drive (or 10 miles) from that street!!! Shop for an apartment with paycheck direct deposit - you'll need it... Anywhere close to the OC will be too far (if the street you mention is the one off La Brea). Used to take me 3 hours some nights to get from Irvine to Long Beach. You'd kill yourself.
Just moved into my condo on the 25th floor at 1100 Wilshire (www.1100wilshirela.com). Lookin' down on Staples, Nokia Theater, and L. A. Live. Can see from Santa Monica to Long Beach. Incredible sunsets! South Park is nice, new gound-up stuff (http://www.exploresouthgroup.com/). A resource: http://www.loftla.com/loftla/. If you can wait, put a deposit on one of the units here: http://parkfifth.com/. Downtown Los Angeles is in the midst of a rennaisance. Happy Hunting!
Downtown just issued 14 new liquor licenses on one street. The area is going to explode in the next year. I'm a big fan of the beach cities as well.
Nice condo. I'm always next to your building developing apt buildings. How much did you pay for your unit? That is one hell of a nice building, although it's a little close to some rough areas.
i hope those bars hurry up, build out, and open up. i moved downtown from hermosa a few weeks ago... this place is a wasteland on weekends.
Given your area, I would look at Marina Del Rey area pretty nice area...or downtown....that place is going to blow up! as for the 1100 wilshire place.... how much does a condo like that set you back? looks friggin awesome!
I agree.. a good friend of mine just moved down there as well. It'll pick up, but I wouldn't expect Hermosa numbers for a while.
+++1 The "South Bay" is one of the nicest beach communities in California. Crime is low, entertainment is high, and it is close to (relatively speaking) to Downtown, the Valley, and the OC Coastline. Also, if your job requires a lot of travel outside of SoCal, the South Bay is just below LAX - one can easily taxi to and from the airport with ease. I used to live on the Esplanade (Riviera Village community of Redondo Beach) - I regret the day I moved to San Diego County (Carlsbad).
Yes, yes to Hermosa Beach (ah yes, the Lighthouse All Stars) and the South Bay beaches. BUT, my office is downtown Los Angeles. Yes, am still in the OC. In July 2005 put a deposit down on a $453K studio on 25 floor at 1100. Yeah, ain't cheat. But it's 15 minutes, door-to-door vs. 1.5 hrs each way. The B Route DASH stops at the front door! And, the Redline is a 7 minute walk down the hill to Fig. Check here on pricing and availability: http://homes.realtor.com/search/searchresults.aspx?zp=90017&typ=2. If you talk w/ the sales folk, tell them Hadley McGaughey sent you. We'll split the finder's fee. Rough areas? Maybe. Good Samaratin Hospital is a block away. Important for us older dudes. And, well, took a 10-15 minute walk to the Food 4 Less market the other night, next door to the Home Depot. Excellent pricing! Didn't wear a coat and tie, and didn't feel uncomfortable. They're just folks too. Just gettin' into it. So far so good. Didn't buy for investment, but am sure I ain't gonna lose a dime here.
