We may have to settle for what is available.I guess we are lucky to even have a Mondial on the way.I'll get one right away and it is always possible that a better manufacturer will produce one in the future........

Well, I am planning a bit of both.
Will keep one Mattel Mondial stock
I've bought a Kyosho 328 and will be planning on using the Kyosho's more correct wheels, engine, front and rear bumpers, modified central console - and of course re-shoot it in black - to have a close conversion of the Mattel M8 to a 3.2 coupe.

For those who want more correct wheels and tire size for a qv, www.scuderiamodelli.com has 3.2/t wheels available in 1:18 or you could cannibalize a Bburago 348 pretty easily for a Mondial 8R(oel).

Talked to the people at Speedgear today and they said that their Mondial 8 Super Elite is scheduled for arrival in one week.

My question too but I noticed that Speedgear's website has the Super Elite listed at $275. and Elites at other sites are $79.

    But after searching further I found this;

"An all new venture for Mattel, high end super detailed 1:18 scale finished models. The is the 60th anniversary Ferrari Mondial 8.This impressive Ferrari miniature will rival the best when it comes to finished die cast models. Super detailed engine area including all wiring, lines, and hoses. The interior boasts real leather seats, photo etch metal buckles on the safety belts, glass faced gauges and more. Top it off with a beautiful high luster paint finish and you have a great addition to your Ferrari collection. The model is mounted on a real leather base, and is packaged in an attractive clam shell type box. Limited numbered edition"

Typos are theirs, not mine ;) http://www.replicarz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MATL7119

"rival the best" got to be the overstatement of the century. Their Super[laughable]Elite models have hard time rivaling $80 Kyoshos and they are most definitely way out of BBR, CMC and Exoto 1:18s league. I don't know what are they smoking at Replicarz but it got to be strong to make such a statement. I personally would never EVER spend more than $100 for a POS mattel. Some of their models are pretty good but I honestly have hard time swallowing the Elite's $70-80 pricetag, but have no choice as Mattel are the only ones with a license and their "economy" models are worse than 15 year old Bburagos

I agree with you on the economy models but haven't seen too many of the other brands in person. The pictures of their F430 on the other thread is pretty amazing and hopefully the Elite Mondial will be as spectacular.

See, here is the problem. There are a lot of people like you out there that don't know all these other models and then read something like the crap on the replicarz' site and go >wow they really went way out on this model<
In fact a model like the BBR Enzo (1:18) sells for same as a Super [laughable] Elite. Yet it is ten times the model. From fit and finish to the red stitches on the top of the interior door panels.
Any of the "Super" Elite models are basically no different than the Elite models other than the packaging. And the price of course.
It is a total rip off and I don't get it how long is it going to take you people until it get to your brains that they are asking same money as a german manufacturer for their hand built-work-of-art-models (CMC).
This goes to everyone out there that is thinking about buying a "Super" Elite in the future. DO YOUR RESEARCH AND OPEN YOUR EYES!
I know that if you want a certain Ferrari model you have no choice, but the Elite line is dissent enough and overpriced enough.

+1. The Super Elites are an insult. As long as misinformed people continue to buy them, Mattel will continue their scam.

Also true. It is absurd that they don't even paint the window lining on their economy models. Mattel is holding worldwide Ferrari fans hostage with their exclusive licensing agreement. I sure wish that the agreement would have been with Kyosho instead. Did Ferrari make perhaps a mistake?

I really can't take the new mattel and it sucks because they are the only people who have the license for the newer models. I do not have much money laying around and what I do have I can't spend $80 on a model. I recently got a couple older models on ebay (250 GTO, 612, 355 GTS, Org ENZO) and they are much better than what I have seen of the regular models. It is like they went from decent models for $30 to crap for $30 and above decent (elite) for $80. I did break down and buy an elite Superamerica and it is really great but then again it should be. I just wish someone else would make a decent model of newer models in the $30-$50.

    I think you're making a grand assumption ;)

The Ferrari/Mattel collaboration works quite well as it appeals to the mass market. There are lots of dreamy-eyed boys worldwide and Ferraris are usually near the top of their list.

Personally, I'm not a collector per se since I only buy models that I have an association with. I owned a Mondial for a few years and would like to have another, so any large scale representation would naturally peek my interest.

As an aside... I'm baffled as to how they (manufacturers) determine which cars models to produce. How many 1991 Opel Omega 3000 (24V Deutsche Tourenw Meistersch Klaus Niedzwiedz) models did they expect to sell? For example, Triumph automobiles are known and loved by many yet their last and best sports car, the TR8 convertible, is mostly forgotten by the precision model manufacturers. I owned a 1:1 scale for 22 years and would gladly pay $100+ for a 1:18 (preferably a 1980 in Poseidon Green with Tan Tartan interior).

But in the meantime I'll probably buy the low end Mondial 8 and save the big bucks for the 3.2 Coupe, if it ever becomes available. Oh, and then paint it black :)

I just both a Mondial 8 60th anniversary. It is not Elite, but they painted the window frames. They are starting to learn, just very slowly. Too slow actually ;)

I purchased it 2 days ago from e-bay from someone who I've bought from before. It should be here by the end of next week. It was just $27. And on the detailed pics of the model and the box it is shown with the window seals painted black. I have a feeling that it is going to be a good model and that the Elite version is not going to be much better.

I'm not sure why Mattel decided to make the Mondial coupe rather then the convertable cabriolet version which IMO looks better and I rather have in my collection. I'm wondering if they will make one and who will try to make one from the coupe version? I would like to see if this is possible to do? Any takers?

It is still a Ferrari indeed. I respect the car for what it is. It is just not one of their greatest design achievements IMO. The point is that he said it is "so ugly in quality" which I disagree with. What he is drawing this comment from is just that the 430 Scuderia (for example) is a lot better looking car in real life than the MOndial8. From the pics it seems like they actually improved their quality.
