I have this weird thing going on. When I start the car 1st thing in the morning it idles rough. It will continue to run poorly until I turn off the key and restart. Then it sounds beautiful.
After that it will not act up for the rest of the day. Next day, same issue. I tried to drive it when it wasn't sounding right and the car sputters and has virtually no power. Cut it off and restart, and all is fine. Any ideas?

My first guess would be a battery with a failed internal cell or two.

do a search in 360/430 for starting problems. ist been said, and I do agree, that for some odd reason the car fires 4 cylinders first and then fails to start the other 4.

Well, if he's touching the throttle at all while starting the motor, that would be such a reason. Bad battery another reason (even if just 1 internal cell has failed and the car runs fine on alternator later).

He might need the cold-start fuel maps (in the engine's ECU) to be reflashed by a dealer, too.

Or he may have fouled some spark plugs (pull them and look!). See the link in my signature. Good iridium plugs can cure a lot of ills.

If he wants to reset the computer to see if that helps, he can turn the battery off at the 'Kill' switch on passenger side under the hood. After a short while off, unkill the battery switch and then switch ignition key on (not Start, but to Run position) until the dash Engine OK appears. Don't start the motor, but turn the key back off and then on again.

NOW start up the motor and let it idle for a period of time (10 mins) while the ECU re-learns the settings.
