A car alone does not win WDC or WCC...it must be properly sorted and have a top driver as well, which Renault did not have in 2007...
Alonso understood the structure of the team and left when he thought Renault were not committed to longer term funding levels under Ghosin(spell?) I am in the paddock with my friends at Renault and the working relationship was in their view a good one. Alonso's move was practical with the information he had at the time(funding doubts at Renault). Little did he know what was waiting for him at Mclaren. The issue is now how long does he wait for a WDC capable car. I think the 3 yr contract answers that. I just hope he has the patience or SRT's prediction of no more WDC's is a distinct possibility. Renault should keep Heiki but Alonso would not have that would be my guess.
I've been intrigued by your past posts concerning this idea/opinion of yours. I believe there is some validity to this.
I dont usually root AGAINST a team but would rather root FOR teams. Like my brother roots for whomever is playing the Cowboys. Looks like in 2008 I can try that out.
^^^ Its difficult to predict what will happen in the future. McLaren did a lot better than I exepcted when they came out with a great car. Who knows - maybe BMW will hit one out of the park next year?
IMO it's plain to see that he waited to see if the FIA were going to punish Renault, then made his move, to no surprise his options were running out. It just makes me angry that even down to a driver choosing a team to drive for ,depends on what Max and his minions of gloom rule. BTW Contracts are there to be broken.
Renault didnt had A THING in 2007...Im sorry mate but you were watching a different series on tv... Renaults were INCREDIBLY SLOW!!!!...and the technical knowledge of a modern F1 car is something a Driver marginally understands... NOT ALONSO, NOT SHUMACHER, no Driver would have been a world champion in that 2007 Renault... Call it tire adjusting, call it new regulations, call it lazy NEW slow drivers...the 2007 car was SLOW...remember the 2005 Ferrari? ...nevermind...
Just had another thought crazy maybe, But in a way Max probably Knew FA was thinking of going to Renault So he left them off the hook knowing full well FA would then race for them ,and in his own mind it was another one in the eye for RD.
well, why did Fred leave Mac? no number 1 status, thats the main point. over at Renault, he's guranteed that for the 2008 season, and i think, HK did a decent job in a ill handling car for this season. so think, there's room for improvement, and thats why Fred chose Renault. but then again, it could be outta desperation. does anyone here really thinks if he had gone to Toyota or Red Bull, he can do a MS stunt and turn them into world champions? it's hard to say, but from this point, i think he's anxious to win, so thats why he went back to Flav's team.
Nonsense. Renault screwed up massively because the car's aero didn't behave like it should back at the wind tunnel. pretty much the same issue at Honda.
IMHO, the 08 season will show what FA is (or is not) made of....unfortunately, I affraid he's already done that, especially in refrence to last season This season is shaping up to have great competition all around FA with at least two teams (Ferrari / Mac) and the strong possibility of others as well. He'll be with a team who's car just last season was, well...let's just say, lacking....a lot! So the possibilty of the Renault not being extremely competitive, at least in the begining of the season, is plauseable. For FA and Renault's sake, I hope Piquet Jr doesn't turn out to be another LH otherwise I fear we will see a carbon copy of FA's 07 behavior. March can't get here fast enough!!
http://www.spiegel.de/sport/formel1/0,1518,522350,00.html Spiegel says the contract is limited to one year...
Lots of reports...one I read which seems to be the most plausible is that it is a 3-year, with an out after 1 year if the car is rubbish. Performance (non) clause.
MS is quoted as saying there's no room for FA at Ferrari for the next three years. LDM and JT said something along these lines too. I find it hard to believe that Ferrari has an option on FA for next year when he had a previous contract at Mclaren until the end of 2009. My bet is he wants to go to BMW in 2009.
Sounds reasonable, yes. Would also match the rumours of the last weeks. I wouldn't like to see him at Ferrari, but I suppose it is still his aim. The option could have been signed sometime after the spy hearings when the relationship between MCL and Alonso rapidly went south.
We already know from testing times and shoot outs that Piquet Jr. is soso. Not bad, but not great either. Definitely no Hamilton.
