How can F1 be the top of auto tech with a 10-year engine freeze?

That wouldn't be Formula 1... that would be Formula Hybrid or something...

 

No slicks
No ground effect skirts
No sucker cars
No wings attached to uprights
No turbos
And yet the racing continues and we watch it.
Its a "Formula"

 

How can you not change engines for 10 years??? The road cars will be more advanced by then

Why does F1 need to be the pinnacle of technology? The state of technological advancement today dictates that you need large sums of money and many people to produce technology with ever decreasing returns on ever increasing cost of development. This benefits the handful of teams that can afford it, while the rest have no chance of ever being competitive. As budgets grow, so does the gap, and all you'll have is one or two teams being competitive at once.

So, then, why does F1 need to be the pinnacle of technology, when all it really needs to be is the pinnacle of racing?

 

ive been a f1 supporter for 23 years and i want to have my say. so here it goes i think theres more to this than we think, i say there is a or manufacture's is taking this for a advantage in they could develop a motor that would be more relieable during testing before the engine rule starts if that happens. hint toyota hasnt got far and honda also hasnt got many points so keep an eye out on those 2 teams in testing. from now on to next season. also toyota has a very large f1 engine facility so they also could hide development as other motorsport development.
