Has anyone got any tips on how to adjust the doors on a 1979 308GTB. I have taken the door card off to sort out the windows and have noticed that the door does not close without catching, i have to lift the door slightly to make it close properly, is this able to be fixed by the catch/striker plate or is it due to hinge wear? The external handle also seems very loose, it wobbles from side to side, is this repairable or do i need a new handle ? I presume you remove this part by taking out the screw in the door shut.

You reshim the door for sag (or bend it back up with a floor jack, your call) at the front hinges.

Your handle rattles due to missing oval plastic grommet, $32 at Ferrari Parts and it's hard to find in the Parts Book.....I have a pair of them somehwere I have moved or call Russell in Parts at FoH he found/ordered mine!

Sometimes replacement of the hinge pins will reorient the door in the frame opening also, make sure you don;t see wear/slop at that point...slight wear at the pins is what the shims are for at the hinge mount. Behind the plate the door light switches mount in....

No no no no! Dont bend anything, change the hinge pins and go from there. Its an easy job and cheap.

I had the same problem with the drivers door on my '82. Not willing to force anything but not getting there with the striker adjustment, I took the door off only to find a broken bottom hinge pin.

Looking at the part I saw why it had broken, it is really a bad design. I had a new one made, but with a smaller grease hole and the exit into the hinge a little higher up on the pin, works a treat and will never break again. Because it was a one-off cost was relatively high, but I think the pins are the same for a wide variety of F models, so a batch could be made at low cost.

    Happy motoring,

    Jack V.

Thanks guys for the help and advice,Ive taken the handle out, it only has the screw to hold it in,there is no room for a plastic bush, the play is either caused by slight wear to the shaft on the screw or the hole in the door is worn, i hope its the screw as it is replaceable, otherwise i'm stuck and will have to live with it, has anyone replaced this screw to cure the problem?
Ive lifted the door up and down and there is a slight play in the hinges so i will replace them and see if that makes the door shut better.

I have now obtained a new screw from Ferrari U.K. ( not cheap ) but it still wobbles from left to right, in fact its starting to hit the paintwork causing damage, does anyone have a part No for the plastic grommet, or show me a sketch where it fits, please.

    Phil,
I'd suggest trying a thin washer on the pivot bolt. You may have to file it down to get the correct thickness to minimize wobble.

The gasket aka:'grommet' #35 in TAV 107 on most 3x8 FPCs fits into/around the latch handle's door panel opening. It is just a piece of plastic trim split on the bottom so you can slip it over the door handle, with a raised strip that snaps thru the opening & holds it into place.

    BTW, they're pretty fragile(been there).

Umm, a price of £0.00 doesn't look encouraging:

    [35] #61455400 GASKET
    Unit price: £0.00
    Quantity required: 2
    This part supersedes: 60567000

If they're NLA, & someone has a couple that they could loan me, I can make a mold.
