I'm looking for my first Ferrrari and have narrowed it down to either a 250GTE 2+2 or a 330 GT 2+2 single headlight. Does anyone know of one that is for sale other than the ones at FJ or MS? New to this I also listen to the pros and cons of each. Thanks

To start with, I'd suggest subscribing to the Ferrari Market Letter.

Also visit Tom Yang's board, http://www.tomyang.net/cars/ferrari.html, the Mecca for V12 2+2 enthusiasts.

Hang out here as well; there are 330 and 250 owner regulars who are more than happy to lend advice.

I was also searching for a 330 2+2 or GTE until recently; these days good cars come and go very fast. I checked some other dealer websites and the 2HL 330's they had are sold.

There are a couple of really nice 4HL cars out there now. Links:

    http://www.elitemotorsportsmd.com/main.htm

    http://www.dragoneclassics.com/home.htm

Mike Sheehan has a good project 2HL 330 on his page: http://www.ferraris-online.com/
He recently had a GTE but it doesn't show up there now.

As far as model comparisons, that's a subject too extensive to make a brief comment on.

Hope this helps you get a start...good luck.

    D'oh! I didn't even mention the online 330 Bible!

Kerry's 330GT Registry and Tom Yang's board are the two top concentrated online resources for Vintage 12 2+2 owner/enthusiasts.

Regarding the 330 Registry's "For Sale" page, I know 5629 is sold, and suspect 8523 is also sold, because it's not on the Ferrari of Newport Beach website any more. I discussed these cars with the sellers when I was looking for a 330 recently, and there was an active and anxious waiting list for both.

#5083 is apparently an up-and-running, numbers-matching 330 America project car. I think the bottom-line asking is $100K, entirely reasonable in the current market. It would be in my garage if funds permitted.

5083 is not numbers matching according to a discussion on Tom Yang's site.

    Art,

OK, $100K isn't reasonable then. An intact, solid chassis and body with a s/n and a 209 engine in good shape, all in roadable condition, would make $80K a reasonable price, IMO. This is considering that an additional $80-100K would be required to complete the restoration, and that it would be worth 30% less than a numbers-matching car when complete.

    I'd still "hit it".

    :)

I remember almost buying a project 330 America with a GTE engine for less than $20k. I wish I had the money, back then, to fill a barn with projects like I wanted to.

    Art,

You are not alone. If I had a $1 for every car I passed up.... Well, I'd only have like $9 but the equity in the cars would be astounding :-(

Yep, the ones that got away...the all-original Porsche Speedster for $800 in 1970, for one. All I had to do was hand over the money.

I know of a 330GT for sale. I can find out more details, but for now, I know it doesn't run and its burgundy in color. I only saw the back of the car so I can't even tell if its a 2 or 4 headlight car. Looked pretty nice though.

I'm curious, has anyone seen the ferrari legends of passion that speed has been playing as of late? What was the car alain de cadenet was driving in the introduction? he said 250 something, something, but it seems like there are so many with that number designation i'm having trouble. the reason why i asked was it looks quite similar to the 330 you guys are talking about.

    fastback33,

250 and 330 designate the motor displacement, the rest of the numbers designate the body style and the set-up (4-cam, 2 seater, 4 seater, hard top, soft top, etc.) and if it is followed by another name, this is often the body maker. Also, 250 means 250 cc per cylinder displacement (3 liter motor), 330 means 330 cc per cylinder displacement (4 liter motor).

Unfortunately, I have not seen the show so I can't tell you which car you saw.

    Regards,

    Art S.

I just tried and found it ok:
Go to the tool bar at the top of the opening page, click on 'registry v' and it will bring down a menu which includes 'for sale'. Click it.

Since I posted this 2 months ago, I've changed the format of the registry. As was just mentioned, the For Sale section is now under the Registry menu item. If you have Java enabled in your browser, just hover the mouse over the item and a drop-down menu will appear. For those w/o Java, click on the item to see a page with the additional menu items.

Or you can go directly there with:
