Three Two Eight or Three Twenty Eight?

Stupid question, is there any consensus among those who care about such things?

Do we say it Three Two Eight or Three Twenty Eight?

Feel free to slap me if you have to. I have no idea how to search for such a thing.

(Always freaks me out when I hear the UK guys say "three five five" -- which I know is more common for them for that model, but that's like calling a 412 a "four one two" )

 

Well, we incorrectly say "three oh eight" instead of "three zero eight." Buy a Mondial and you don't have to worry about it.

 

3-2-8 in the UK as well, IIRC. Given the 3-0-8 convention, I think you can go either way.

Is there a slap-the-OP function on FChat?

 

Ferrari designated the car as a "Tre Vent'otto" which is indeed a Three twentyeight !

So I seem to recall the the numbers of the earlier cars were the engine size in liters and then the number of cylinders. So a 308 was a 3.0 liter 8 cyl. and the 328 would be the 3.2L 8 cyl. That being the case I would think that it should be three two eight , but we all seem to say three twenty eight. So pick your own I guess. I don't know what the 355 stands for though.

 

3.5 liters, 5 valves per cylinder.

Either way, is anyone actually confused as to what you mean? If not, call it whatever you want.

 

Except the 308 is closer to a 2.9 liter engine than a 3.0 liter engine. So if they were being truthful, the 308 would have been a 298! Oh, and I always though 328 was pronounced 'Three-Q-Eight', just like 'Three-O-Eight'. Since Q is two letters further down the alphabet that O.

 

I've been thinking about this for some time, but wasn't worried until now.
"Mondial" is French for worldwide, pronounced 'Moan dee awl'.
In America, it's probably ' Mawn-dile'. I always try to pronounce names as the original
speaker/language would have it; in this case I'd like to hear from owners.

612. 6.1 liter, 2 valves per cylinder

And the hapless 360 and 430 and 550. Are they two-stroke engines?

 

Well........ at least I haven't encountered some loser calling it a Ferrari "three hundred and twenty eight" model..............

Here in the UK we speak the proper Queen's English!!! (There is a reason why the language is called English ). Ferrari models are Three-five-fives, Three-Two-Eights, Four-One-Twos, Four-Five-Sixes etc. We can also spell things like 'colour' and 'tyre'. Cars have a boot not a trunk and we park them in car parks not parking lots...

I was going with "Mon dee' al" but have always wondered whether it should be "Mon' dee al". Now, you have to throw in Moan and awl.
