Best of 1min12.1. Thats in my R31 skyline. Just better brake pads (EBC Greenstuffs). Got to high/mid 13's over the course of a few events then sort of peaked. I did the John Bowe High Performance course earlier this year though and that got me another second or so.

The next step up from club days was going to cost too much so decided to try rallying instead. The Charade would be faster I don't doubt (especially with semi-slicks) but not sure if I will have the time/money to get it out there this year. R31 is starting to feel its ages a bit as well so not sure it will see the track again. Maybe if it rains. I miss it *sigh* hahaha

2007 was a tough year for me work wise and I only made it to Sandown 5 times in my 2005 Porsche Turbo. However if I hadn't been so hectic at work I would have done 10 - 12 track days.

I am just completing a full rebuilt on a 1973 RS Carrera 2.8L which I am running at Targa Tas and Potentially Noosa + I am going to run every round of the Porsche Club this year which will be 9 events.

Regarding the Insurance Issue. If you are insured with Shannons and you are at an Events O'Neill or John Bowe Day you are covered due to the fact that it is a driver training day. (No timing Allowed).

The best thing about track days is the fact that you don't have to worry about getting a speeding ticket.

I hope to see you guys this year at the track!!

Most, if not all, insurance companies state that a car is not insured whilst on a race track (various definitions of such)- Timed or not.

They have all been burnt in the past at events without timing.

Burrows Drive days are OK with Shannons. I know cuz I've been and I've checked, infact it states in my policy that non timed driver training days with qualified instructors are covered

I wouldn't want to test that theory if it were me. There is some case history in Victoria on "non-timed" events and policies were changed after some large payouts.

Here ya go, from their PDS http://www.shannons.com.au/library/documents/Motor_Insurance_PDS.pdf

    WHAT IS COVERED
    13. Training Courses
We will provide you with full cover during your participation in
any professional driving/riding course designed to improve your
skills on the road whether such course is conducted on a public
road or private specialist venue, provided an instructor is present.

    WHAT IS NOT COVERED
    13. Training Courses
Cover will not be provided if such a course comes under the
jurisdiction of Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS)
or any other motorsport governing body, or where there are no
designated instructors in attendance, except where this is covered
by the Club Racing optional endorsement

Interesting. Obviously changed again; but I wonder if they expect the instructors bum to be in the car with you when it all turns to sh*t given the wording.

    Hi,

I know 2 people who have been paid out by Shannons after incidents on these kind of days. On both occasions it was panel damage, rather than a write off.

Porsche insurance also used to cover the same kind of events. That was until an incident at Eastern Creek earlier this year. After that incident I believe Porsche insurance is no longer providing this cover.

    Cheers

    Robbo

So you would be covered (with instructor’s presence) on a public road or private specialist venue but NOT if such a course comes under the juristiction of CAMS or any other motorsport governing body.

It would be interesting to know if they consider most tracks such as Sandown, Baskerville, Eastern Creek etc as PRIVATE SPECIALIST venues and whether they come under the JURISTICTION of CAMS. If push came to shove, it could get ugly.

They used real gold because it has the best heat insulation properties, not for the appearance.

The F1 was designed to achieve the optimum technical solution, regardless of cost.

Regardless of intent, aesthetically it still bling bling, which im sure would appeal to many potential wealthy middle eastern customers.

What has me curious though is if it is such an application of gold is the optimum solution in this situation how come other expensive sports car manufacturers haven't picked up on this idea and applied it to their vehicles? im sure having the bling factor would be a great marketing gimmick. I reckon Lamborghini would be able to make the most of such an application.
