Can you clearify what you mean by "no power increase when using an aftermarket muffler only"? My understanding is that when switched from Tubi or Fuchs mufflers to the new 2 valves system, you gained 22-28hp right? But when just using Tubi or Fuchs muffler, you gained nothing from stock OEM muffler??? Thanks!
Capristo Headers sounds interesting. Now if they are paying attention to owners concerns about the lack of heat shields on all these header options that are popping up they may have an edge on the competition.
I had Mr Capristo himself on the phone last week. He explained to me that by installing his new system would solve all the inherent exhaust problems of the 355. I have to admit that i am not too deep into car mechanics but what he said did sound good to me. I will get one installed next year as my 355 has only 27k kilo on the odo and i dont want to run the risk of getting problems later. The exhaust is 2,900 Euro. The optional remote valve control is another 700 Euro. Subscribers of the German 'carpassion' website will get a 10% discount. I then called my Ferrari dealer near Munich and asked him if he ever had installed a Capristo to a 355 and the answer was 'Yes, no problem. The sound is great and better than the Fuchs sound but quality is somewhat inferior'. I dont really care. Sound is what matters.
Was the new exhaust tested with test pipes or free flowing primary cats? If so, how much of the increase in power is from just changing the primary cats?
Here is a picture on how the factory Ferrari exhaust system flows according to the testing, as you will see by the arrows the air that should be flowing through the main cats is partially being sucked back up & into the flow of the Y pipe! I will confirm with Antonio with respect to the cats, knowing how he is, I would bet that the cats used were OEM for the tests. Another note, we have also seen horsepower loss with some other aftermarket systems over OEM. I have CAD drawings of the new headers that I will post on a new thread. They are equal length tubes with a proper merge collector for correct gas scavenging; the design is nothing like the OEM versions or anyone elses. In any event that is for a different thread. The Factory is open again as of Monday & so am I for business. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nick, that's exactly what I mentioned before. He is creating new headers at the moment using my F355. Several dyno runs will follow. He is also interested in changing the intake system (not the air boxes, the black air chambers with the funnels inside ). Years ago Mr. Capristo hat a F355 NGT. You can believe that he has experiences with that kind of car. Results are coming soon. Andi
Andi, you are correct. Capristo is a very talented person, he also designed a 4 valve 355 head & built a bigger bore 355 engine previously, ask him to show you the pictures, very cool! In any event Andi, what is being developed is really exciting, it is great that you are involved! Now you will have reliability, more HP and an awesome sound!
