Full tank of gas or Empty when Storing?

i parked a 3000gt for 4 years with 1/4 tank. rust was very bad when i got back to it. it would fill the fuel filter with particles, blow out the filter, and proceed to clog the injector screens with rust. i changed the filter 4 times each time remoing the injectors and cleaning them of all the rust they were clogged with. i got very lucky as to not have any other damage. put a new tank in and problem solved.

that said. full tank with stabil. 2 months is nothing though. youll be fine with whatever you park it with.

 

Inportant!! If you do fill(recomended) leave some room for expansion as someone else recomended. Fuel expands like crazy when warmed. If you fill up on a cold day you might have some fire issues when it warms up!

Just becsuse you have aluminum tanks, you are not imune to condensation/corrosion problems. Here is a fuel sending unit from a 275GTB/4 that was stored in a museum in Japan for a few years. It was in mint condtion.

Here is another 275GTB/4 cam sending unit that suffered the same fate. Keep in mind that these sending units are NLA, even finding a good Veliga unit that can be modified to fit is next to impossible. This is a $1000+ repair for the fuel gauge.

Just because you have a new car doesn't make you immune either. Not only is condensation a problem, but when the gas goes bad it can damage the fuel system. Here is the fuel tank from a 550 Barchetta with less than 500 mile, stored in a climate controlled garage in California. Only had 1/4 tank of our great California gas in it, which disolved the fuel pump mounts, turning them to goo.

The cost for two new fuel pumps was over $3000. Moral of the story, Drive your car. If you can't drive it, fill the fuel tank please.
