    Last Saturday my 308 GTS QV (EU-model) from 1985 refused to start. I took it from the garage (it started immediately) and switched off the engine. After 20 minutes I wanted to restart, but it didn't.

    I can hear the fuelpump, but the engine does not start. If I try again, I cannot hear the fuelpump any more. My battery is weak and needs replacing. After 20min I try again, hear the fule pump, but nothing happens. All the rest is working, and the sparks do work. It seems that the Bosch system has a safety stop or so. May be when there is not enough energy, the system shuts itself down to protect the engine or so. After charging the battery, the fulepump works again and I can hear that the engine want to start, but then it does not. It is totally dead. My car always started at once since 1996!! Jump starting with another car did not help.

    Who knows what the problem could be?

    Check for power to the digiplex's,,,
    also, Check fuse to Digiplexs

    get your spare parts manual.

    Remove your left rear wheel, , the Digiplex's are in front of the fwd. fiberglass gravel guard,
    but, check your fuses first.

    Your fuse box, I believe, is inside your cars passenger compartment. (1985?)
    (Be patient, some Euro 308 QV people should chime in tonight to answer your questions.)

    It sounds like the car will start when cold, but after you warm it up it won't start?
    If that is the case, the problem may be vapor lock. The system is designed to hold fuel pressure for 20 minutes after you shut it down. The higher pressure will prevent the fuel from vaporizing in the lines. I don't completely understand why after a little cranking the car won't start, but... There is an accumulator (by the fuel pump) to help maintain the pressure. A plugged fuel injector can allow the pressure to bleed-off. Another culprit can be the accumulator--check to see if fuel is leaking out of the back (where a small hose is attached). If you have the old steel fuel injectors you may want to replace them with the new brass ones. They are likely ready to be replaced (most people have replaced them already). The accumulator is common to other vintage cars I've seen them on the old V-8 Mercedes Benzes.

    The best thing to do is to get a CSI fuel tester and verify if fuel pressure loss is your problem, but if you do test and have a loss; it may not be readily apparent where the loss is.

    hi Mark,

    thaks for that. I am familiar with this problem. My car ran for only a few minutes. TodayI went to the Dutch Ferrari importer and they didn't know instandly what it could be. However they mentiond it sounds like that the system is just shut off. i could be the after market fit alarm set might be the issue.
    In the mnatime i checked all fuses, relays etc. The engine is just not willing to start, the starter motor runs sweetly. it is just now that I cannot hear the fulepump any more.So there must be enough pressure. To be continued!

    Hi Mark,

    Many thanks for your pdfs, as I did not run these checks!

    In the meantime I gained more information. It seems most likely a alarm system isssue. This is shuting off the Bosch system. I wil have this checked tomorrow by specialist. the alarm was fitted 12 years ago with 134 wire possibilities! Keep you posted!!
