I live in a county in Md. that has a lot of quarries and there are tons of dump trucks leaving sand and crap on the roads. My windshield on my 308 is getting more and more tiny nicks. They are very small and only a real problem when driving into the sun, but I seem to spend a lot of time doing that. THey are getting worse and worse. Does anyone know of a real method to fill or correct these tiny marks? Thanks in advance. Bob

AFAIK, there is no permanent way to repair those little nicks. I believe there is a way of polishing glass, but windshields are not your ordinary glass. If you polish it imperfectly, which is highly likely, you will have distortions that will show up while driving, and could be dangerous. I have found that using RainX seems to do a pretty good job of hiding most of the little nicks and pitting. You just have to keep using it as it wears off. But it does not really hide the bigger ones.

You can buy a product at your local auto parts place that fixes cracks and such in windshields. I have personally used it numerous times with great success. I have yet to replace a windshield.

There is also a product / process called Diamond Fusion that new car dealers will try to sell you. I know the local distributor, and he has been trying to sell me on doing my cars for a while now. The idea is that the compound fills in all the little pits and grooves that glass naturally has, even when new. The result, they claim, is a windshield that is smoother and stronger than untreated glass, more scratch and chip resistant, and as an added bonus, allows rain water to instantly sheet off. Mnor pitting can be filled, but those big starry chips need to be fixed first. I keep meaning to get it done on one car, to see if it lives up to its billing. Google 'Diamond Fusion' to get to their website. No first hand testimonials from me, but the situation you describe is precisely what my buddy here tells me this stuff fixes and prevents.

I looked at Diamond Fusion's web site. They have lots of information there. Lots of information about everything except how to actually get/buy their product. It is amazing how much work goes into a web site that forgets to try to close a sale. If I'm going to sell something on the web, my contact info/how to buy/dealer finder button will be on EVERY SINGLE PAGE.

If this product works for pitted windshields I will try it on my GT4. If I can figure out how to buy it.

Thanks, guys. Very informative links provided. I have never had it done - despite the ongoing sales pitch - because I was never completely convinced by the local rep. Even with his "Only because I know you" discount. I may still at some point give it a try, and if I do I will post progress reports to let you know what I find...
