I am literally in the middle of replacing all of my fuel and vent hoses on my 328. The fuel filler neck was easy, as well as the ones at the fuel pump. The problem is accessing the vent lines on the driver side top of the fuel tank. Is there some secret that I am not aware of to get to these? I am taking pics as I go and will post them if I ever finish. I have tucked my car in for the night and taking a break. TIA

I don't know what the 328 looks like but I just did my 308 and when I removed the inner fender liner on the drivers side I had all the room I needed to change these hoses. Now I assume that a carb car does not have as much clutter as the FI cars. If that's the case I'll defualt to you FI guys on this topic. Good luck

This is a worthwhile project. If you are also replacing the Brake Booster Vac Hose, then consider dropping the fuel tank (a must for that job) and then you'll have plenty of space. That is the secret, I believe.

Spray Silicone into the hose. It is a PITA job. I did it one 1 car while the engine was out and it still was a pain.

Hello everybody, I'm also about to start the fuel system hose replacement. I would like to order the repo. cavis type hose from T Rutlands, they sell several different sizes. Might anybody know offhand which size hose is applicable to the 308QV? Thank-you in advance.

Well I made some good progress today. I removed a few components near the firewall above the drivers side tank and was able to get the 3 hoses off that sit on top of the fuel tank. 2 of them were fairly simple but the 3rd was a PITA ( very little room to work with ). I must have spent 2 hours getting that hose off. It felt like it had melted onto the tank outlet. After numerous attempts I was able to cut through it with a razor blade. I don't think I have used that many cuss words in 2 hours. I have most of the drivers side done so next weekend I will finish that and complete the passenger side hoses. I am documenting my progress with notes and pics which I will post upon completion for others "daring" enough to initiate this project. My wife came out a few times to shake her head and call me an idiot for not taking it to my mechanic. Thanks for the advice but what I needed was to take a physical break and let the wheels keep turning in my head to figure it out. At first I thought there was a secret club with a handshake to find out the easiest way to do these hoses. I guess if you only have to do it once every 15 years it isn't so bad and I am in no hurry. Til next weekend.

    Dan,

I'm not familiar with the setup on the 328, but on the 308s, the wheel well liner comes out and you can access the top of the tank from the well. With the tire off and liner out, there is enough room to get up in there. I've found that working with someone else can help with some of these also, one working from above, the other from the wheel well. But most of them can be done by one person. As Paul said, it's all a heck of a lot easier with the engine out.

    Steve,

I have the wheel well liner out which does provide more room but not enough. I believe that the 308 carbed cars have more room for this project. I told my wife that ding this myself allows two things for me to do that the most mechanics won't do. Clean up hard to reach areas of the engine as well as learn something new about my car. FYI, my fuel filler neck and crossover tubes were not in bad shape. The vent hoses on the top of the tank were in fair condition.
