Has anyone heard one of these on a 348? If so, how do they sound?
Kreissegg(not sure about spelling) Japanese design---by far!!!!!! But for the price--they can keep them...
I'm not aware of the existance of a Borla system for a 348... I have checked before! If you know something I dont, please share some specifics!
What about among the ones that are "less" of a rip-off in cost such as Tubi, Capristo and X-Ost (spelling?)?
Had a Borla on my Mondial T with the 3.4 liter. Very high quality, excellent fit, the sound was a bit tame for me - it was very deep/low at idle & around town but sounded very good. The pipe made good power too. Borla did quit making these but still had them listed in their catalog a year ago (with No Longer Available noted in the price area).
Exactly why I looked into Borla, Magnaflo, etc. already... Companies who realize a quality muffler is only worth a couple-few hundred dollars... not the same price as a brand new Hyundai!! There are only so many 348's out there for those companies to sell these things too! But I know of ONE that will stay stock until I can buy a performance muffler AND a set of free-flow cats for UNDER $1000 all together. THAT'S all that stuff is worth... especially if I have to install the damn things myself!! I dont care if Capristo can take my exhaust note and convert it to Bethoven's 5th, its still just a damn muffler for a car, and STILL only worth a couple-few hundred bucks! If they ever figure that out... then every Ferrari will have one! I suspect this is when the guys at Tubi. X-Ost, & Capristo said "from now on, multiply all of our pricing by 10!! WOO HOO!! if those dumb Ferrari owners will pay 120 grand for a car... they'll pay 6 grand for a $400 muffler!! lol
The Capristo and X-OST are similiar in sound to me..The Tubi is deeper and boomy----I would say if I had to choose one that sounded the most HIGH pitched--it would be the Capristo...but I am partial to the X-OST!!!!
Had a Borla & no cats on my 308 2v.. great throaty sound. will get annoying on long trips though. I eventually had the Borla tips removed & put on Ansa (kinda like adding a glass pac) to quiet it down. I liked the sound much better. If you want throaty, deep, SOUND... I recommend a Borla.
I don't manufacture exhausts, but some of it does come down to volume. Think of how many 348's are out there, now think of the dozen different exhaust companies already competing. Hard for someone to come in and sell if they're lucky 20-30 exhausts a year @ under $1,000. You can even take manufacturing overseas at larger volumes and save on labor, but at 20-30 units not worth it. Don't get me wrong, some of it is the Ferrari tax I'm sure, but for the most part volume has quite a bit to do with it. If you call Borla and tell them you are ready to buy 300 units, I'm sure they could cut someone an under $1k deal but for 20-30 units you'd be lucky if they even did it. If you truly think the grass is as green as it appears, hop on board and begin the manufacturing of Ferrari exhausts. You'll have an Enzo in no time
One of the biggest problems in our business world in the last 5 or so years is that nobody wants to start small and loose some money in the first few years. They all want to be making big profits in their first year. Sorry but thats not the way it works.Or maybe it is. Unfortunately huge stores with lots of $$$$ backing them(homedepot, wallmart, costco, sams club, loews ect) are destroying our economy and we will soon see the impact they are making as more small time producers of many items will disapear.
Nothing is better than a kreissieg exhaust IMO ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM7LlTAXrvE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gF8hueY7LU&feature=related MOTHER OF ALL EXHAUST SOUNDS ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foDcLUhUKqI&feature=related
It was pleasurable. I liked the whole system - fit finish and neat big oval tips. But I just haaaaad to have a Tubi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqYEFSj6vBA
