Do you pull your rides straight into the garage or back in?
From my days as a Marine and Firefighter, I have a habit of backing them in ready to go. Also urban myth has told me it is better to use the reverse gears when every thing is warm rather than to back out after the gears have all been sitting dry and cold.

What do you do? Any reason or just tradition/habit/ease?

I go in head first. My car is quite wide, and I am afraid to reverse in...

I reversed in once. It's not that easy, even with a tiny car! I felt like Batman when I left the garage...but I don't do it any more.

Atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed!

Back in. Due to the overhang on the 328, I can't pull in straight without scraping the spoiler.

Besides, these things are a LOT easier to maneuver in reverse.

Nose in - my garage has tighter clearances than I'd like.

Also, something about having the tailpipes facing outside, rather than aiming at the door to the kitchen...

I back in at work, straight in at home due to the driveway slope. When we were at Williams Square, before the new building, the bldg. management got the brilliant idea of banning reverse-in parking. They actually would stick a paper in your wipers if you reverse parked. I assumed that they thought we were planning a sort of "Lemans start" at the end of the day, but asked them anyway.

Instead, I was told that all our nasty cars leaked oil (environmental lady bldg. mgr.) and that therefore the engine oil slick would be closer to the wall rather than out toward the front. Ladies in high heels might step in that nasty oil if no car was in the spot and slip.

I kid you not. I asked what would be the ruling if you had a rear-engine car, like a Porsche. In that case, I was told you were REQUIRED to park backed in. I gave them my tag number, and said thank you - never had another nastygram.

My usual daily driving car at the time was a silver 1996 Corvette.

I always go in head first and therefore back out.

Here is the safety problem. Backing up and over small children. I have three.

This kills countless small kids every year. It is brought about by the children running to say good bye. This is serious. The more people that are aware the better.

The kids (think 2 yr old) are so enamored with idea of saying good bye that they get in harms way and ocasional go unseen, leading to tragic consequences.

    Tell everyone.

Backing in is always best and safest everywhere, in general, I think. In public because you can more easily see where you are going. At home because you are less likely to back into or over something precious.

Did you ever see Batman backing the Batmobile out of the Bat Cave? Of course, he did have that nifty roundhouse turntable thing. That is probably the answer :):).

Interesting. Is there a reason why...? In that configuration, both engines are furthest from the doors.

Nose in - apartment neighbours complain about fumes getting into the public areas if exhaust points to the entry door & I have to say this WAS an issue when I used Shell Optimax, it really stank.

I drive the cars forward into the garage. When I start a car I like to smog to go outside and not in the house.

Back in. This enables me to hug the garage wall closer. I've been backing-in my cars for years and have become quite adept at it.

I nose in everywhere possible, and back in only when required. The reason? Last spring my car was sat on the hood by some idiot with rivets in their jeans. Happened while parked at a shopping mall outdoor parking lot, way in back, next to my buddy's F430 spider. His was fine, mine had the scratch. Fortunately it was color sanded and buffed out. But could have been worse. Obviously some kids showed up and sat on my car for a picture. I nose in now, to eliminate these "photo ops". ;)
