My '83 308 QV Euro does not have its lower right fastener pointing down as in this picture from another car (not mine) and as I've seen in many other pictures. My dash panel's tab is in the same location but upturned (and hidden) behind the face. The tab looks to be in the same shape ( but pointing up of course) and does not look like it was ever bent up from a down position (i.e. - it looks to be originally formed up).

What was the original fastening method on mine is not clear. But a PO put a kind of stiff plastic velcro like fastener there to hold the right end in place aganst the right side carpeted wheel well (it holds OK). There is no way I could install the black fastener as this picture below shows without bending my tab down, which I may risk breaking it off or deforming the dash/vinyl.

Is the picture below correct (stock) way to hold all 308 lower right corner or did Ferrari do different methods on them?

What would you all recommend I do - leave it or change it (if made correct)?

I would want it correct with reasonable effort.

    Thanks,

    Bob,

It was good meeting you last weekend! Too bad the weather didn't cooperate a little better. I'm glad I didn't drive the 308 though, the roads were a mess and I wouldn't have been able to see after about 5 miles! Thanks again for the gasket too!!

My cover is the same as you are describing. I don't think the tab on mine was ever bent up either as I had it all stripped when I got the interior done. Oddly enough though mine was from a GTS-I, which my car isn't. The cover must have been replaced at one point??

When I put the interior back together I couldn't decide how to refasten the right side. There was nothing holding it in when I got the car but it did have the plastic velcro like you describe. Someone had made a little bracket that the left side screwed into though. I've found that with the screw holding the left side in and the right side tucked behind the dash it stays just fine.

I say, if yours ain't broke, don't fix it!

    Leave it.
My '82 Euro GTS QV has the plastic snap (velcro like) fastener there, pretty sure it's original. I've seen it on a couple of other cars at various concours.

Thanks Verell. If it's good enough for concours, it's good enough for me! I will do that then.

Good seeing you too John. Verell says leave it so I probably will. I did modify the left side by installing the black capped snap for a more positive hold as mine was dropping sometimes. If you ever decide to do the same I have a spare snap.

Next time I'm up in WA I'll let you know, probably in early April (better weather?).

A bit of 308 trivia for you: The "horse" button-snap, like used on the targa top cover, was used on the 308 fuse box cover ONLY for the 1985 model! It's the only obvious difference between an '84 and an '85 at a glance.
