There's a UK development co who specialise in contemporary homes. I particularly like their house 'Thunderbird':
    http://www.sevendevs.com/property.html

I also quite like this house that mixes contemporary design with traditional materials:
    http://www.luxuryrealestate.com/709913

This is kinda cool - it was featured on a TV show. This is the blog of the guy building it, but unfortunately it hasn't been updated for over 2.5 years, however you can still get a good idea of what the finish house will look like:

That would destroy the integrity of the architect's vision, akin to painting the White House fuschia.

Wow, that looks incredible. The only thing I would add would be to dump a few truck loads of sand off that cliff to give me some beach to walk on. :)

Nice to see Poland beeing represented here, although "Poludnie" just means "south" :) I have some shots from Gdynia (coastal city) of a new 2apartment building right on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Gdansk Bay (and the still under construction Sea Towers http://tinyurl.com/3a5v53 ). It's a real gem as far as real estate goes in this part of Poland - I couldn't believe what I was seeing, when I first saw it. The same day by pure chance I talked about real estate with a guy from the developer behind it and the prices he quoted also blew me away. The previously mentioned Sea Towers were to be the most expensive real estate in Poland with the top price being just under $10k/m2 (which over here is.. well, quite insane :)), but those 2apartments put another 50% on top of that! I have to say - the location is just beautiful. I'll try to post pics soon, but they're on another computer.

PS Great thread, loving it. The Stahl house - perfect... no other way to describe it!

There is an exhibit starting here on Oahu for the architect Vladimir Ossipoff. He is considered the most important modern architect to build in Hawaii. I've only seen the IBM building. Here is the link

Although I do like many of the first home's design elements, I do not like the size of it. IMHO, I feel that a home with this particular style should remain 2-3,000 ft; anything bigger is too much. This example appears to be 7-10,000 ft (?).

Some things I really like about this home:
    1) Lighting fixtures in the living/great room
    2) Glass and steel staircase

My view differs. Grande homes should be large but not obscene. Some apartments are well above 2-3K sqft.

Some of those good houses have a master bedroom well into 2000sqft or more. I love that house with the magnificent sea view, simply priceless :)

Only issue is the maintenance & how many people actually stays in it.

Let me dig into my system to post some houses from the East for you guys.

I love that style of house, especially the garage door and glass/steel staircase. But I agree, without seeing it or one like it in person, they seem to look better with a more sublt sq. footage.

Whilst this thread has focused on houses designed in a contemporary aesthetic (nothing wrong with that - it is my favourite style of architecture), I thought it'd be interesting to throw something else into the mix and see what the architects and enthusiasts on here think about it. So pictured below is BedZED (Beddington Zero Energy Development) in South London (it's on Helios Road, SM6 if you want to find it in Google Earth, maps.live.com, etc) - a development of 82 houses and 17 apartments which IMHO is entirely modern and contemporary in it's ethos and concept. I believe that it was at time of completion lauded as the world's largest sustainable property development ever (the residents even have a car sharing scheme to further reduce carbon emissions). Personally I think it is fabulous for it captures the zeitgeist in terms of addressing the challenges of modern architecture and living habits. That said, despite its undeniable quirky, fun-looking charm, for me at least, it could look a bit better - however in such a development I guess form follows function (at least with current technology - although the follow up projects are better looking IMHO).

Here are some links that go into more details about the development, its power generation, how it works, etc:
