Thoughts on the carbed 308 at forza?

Its winter, and I am looking for a rolling project. My wife says I am a glutton for punishment...

This car is interesting.

Carbed is a plus for me.

Everything else is a negative (color, some rust, interior, ugly wheels, etc).

I would plan to repaint it ($2000 in supplies), redye the interior ($1000 or so), do the major, (?3000$ in parts), replace the wheels (?3000) etc. Kind of a rolling restoration. I know that if I figured my labor in, it would be a financial loss. Oh well, might be fun.

I guess my questions relate to price. Doesn't the price of $25,000 seem a bit off, given the negatives? The repainted yellow carbed car on the site is only $10,000 more, needs nothing, and has been listed for a while. I could see $16-17,000 or so for it. Am I just being pessimstic? Or do you guys think someone would buy it for $25,000??? What would be a fair price for this car?

Forza has an interesting collection of cars, and in general I think their pricing is very good. But the more needy cars they have listed, seem priced a bit high. Are they selling anywhere near their asking prices?

I thought "peters" had a similar car in California 1 year ago, same type wheels, in red, and he had a hell of a time selling it. The brown/red color combo just isn't something that most people can live with. Yet we know what a professional repaint would cost...

I am not sure if I will put in an offer, but am curious about folks thoughts...

What do you guys figure a nice carbed car would be worth? More or less than a similar condition QV?

It seems like there is a large choice of 308's with asking prices in the mid 30's, and I figure they sell for 3000-5000$ less than asking, especially in this economic market, not to mention its winter. So, if a good driver is $30,000 give or take... wouldn't a car requiring a repaint/rust work/ and an off color combo be worth much less???

Any opinions welcome. If my opinion is in the minority, I can accept that .

 

Go for the yellow '77 GTB and get correct wheels. It's a much nicer car...for me, somewhat of a difficult choice between it and the red '83 GTS I ended up buying from Forza.

I would have paid the same as I did for the QV for an equal-condition carbed 308.

I just do not think that there is any way that you will buy that car for 16 to 17K. Simply because if you find a Ferrari 308 in that price range its a piece of you know what .... if - you find one, which is pretty much never.

If you like to fix it up your way and you don't mind doing it and enjoy the process of making the car "yours" then get it at the best price that you can, however if it was me ... if you only have 25K, I'd borrow the rest and get the yellow one ... by the time you are done fixing up the grey one - it will cost you way more than the yellow one.

For what its worth. PS. The wheels can look pretty cool but I would recommend putting Ferrari wheel center caps in the center. You can always get 16" repros for about $1700 ... I'm sure they would look great as well.
