Really good producers work in a variety of scenes. Just doing rap is stupid imo.

If a producer really wants to stick to one industry, stick with Rock and Roll. It stands the test of time. ;)

I'll believe it when I see it. Come on, the original link was to a google search for "Scott Storch broke". The guy is not an idiot, he has other investments. A lot of jealousy in this thread.

  3. Lots of jealousy in this thread. He had a networth of 70 million in 2006. Forbes stated he made $17,000,000 in 2006, so it's part of that $70,000,000 that rolling stone reported. As for his spending, it's out of control. He's not in demand right now as the whole industry is in the dumpster. A Miami art gallery owner reposed a painting from Storch yesterday (the 10th); with that being said he just took delivery of a drop head coupe from the collection in Ft.Lauderdale.

See link for more info (it's quite alarming).

    Probably in oversized sunglasses.

Sad to see someone so young blow so much but when you are on top of the world and over indluged in everyway possible its bound to happen....So his boat and a painting was repossessed, his Bugatti and most other cars are on a lease as I suspect the new RR is as well. I gave him 5 years to go broke 2 years ago, time will tell if he can bounce back.

After hearing he gave Lohan a $1 million diamond friendship ring to just try and get her to sign on, it's no wonder he's going broke. Guy spends too much money, some of it on stupid stuff.

  7. Where did you hear that his boat was repossessed?

Yeah he does have it in him to produce good music. He was real good when he was with The Roots. It's all about the money AND the here and now. Dangerous territory.

  13. He made $17,000,000 in 2006. They also reported a networth of $70,000,000 in 2006, not including that income that they later reported. Not sure were you got $9 from. Keep in mine he still gets paid for record sales off old productions.

I read it in one of the articles from the google search, also said he had a $7500 painting repo'd by the gallery owner.....On another note this is a funny remake of his video:

Yes I know it is not really them singing but its funny anyway.

Right, but when people aren't BUYING RECORDS, you have a problem. It's the reason I got out of this f'n business.

  19. I just did a search and usually read up weekly on Storch gossip and haven't seen anything. Mind posting a link?

That is true, but music is music, there will always be demand. There are ups and downs in everything. The digital age has largely contributed to the decline in record sales, but smaller marketing budgets,
widely publicized stupidity and scandals of well known artists, and just bad music has diminished sales more then the digital age (music downloading, myspace, etc). Scott even said it himself: http://youtube.com/watch?v=963vCkQzWCQ

I think it's a combo of a lot of things. Let's just say "it was in the cards" for the industry to crash like it has. Sure, there will always be a demand for music and a need for musicians, etc, but it's nothing like it used to be, and never will again IMO. Everything is/will be on a smaller scale from now on.

  22. I agree, since you're in the music business, when was the "peak"?

Everything goes in peaks and valleys I guess.

I remember back in the 80's (when I lived in Europe at the time) and 80's pop bands were huge - like Duran Duran and Simple Minds and the like. Then I remember the late 80's early 90's (I was in the USA then) and Guns N Roses and "heavy metal" hair bands like Motley Crue, Whitesnake were huge. Then it turned into the early pop/rap like Vanilla Ice and that trash, then it became hard core rap like 2-live Crew and Eze E and then kiddie pop like Britney.

Do you guys think its dying in general or just the sort of music that Storch works on is dying? I can't think of a time really when there was no "hot" music - from the 70's right through very recently. I wonder if it's the death knell of the whole industry - sort of imploding down to a much smaller (but sustainable) size? I wonder if music acts will still be as rich and famous in years to come if there isn't the same money in it?

Maybe if the RIAA wasn't suing people left and right it wouldn't be as dramatic. I will not be buying an RIAA label'd band anytime soon and haven't in at least 5-6 years.
