Does anyone have photos of the 250 GTE prototype driving at Le Mans in 1960? I have read about it quite often, but never seen photos.

I do not have photos of the car being driven on the course, but I do have one of the car in the pits. The car is s/n 1895. I do not know how to post a photo. Can anyone help me. I can get the photo into .jpg form.

Here is Bill's picture, reduced to the 640 size for FChat.

Bill, you might want to mention if this is your own picture, for copyright purposes.

Hi Bill! I guess I should have thought to contact you first... I look forward to seeing your photos. Anybody else out there have shots on the track?

The photo appeared while I was typing the last message and talking to my daughter about her college applications. Any idea who is leaning against the car? He looks important.

It's a frame from the Standard Triumph 1960 LeMans Film. Here's another.

Shame the GTE was used so many times for reproductions of other 250 models because I think the GTE is sexy as hell. Always have.

Why was the GTE there? I assume it wasn't competing, so personal transport, or course marshal car, or just a spectator, or what?

Haven't lots of GTEs visited Le Mans over the years as spectator's cars?

I think it was the course marshal's car. I know a 365GT2+2 was the course marshal's car at LM in the late 60s. There is a picture of it on the course, ferrying a driver back to the pits in Prunet's "The Road Cars"

250 GTE s/n 1895 was at Le Mans in 1960 to be used at the Course Marshall's car and to be introduced to the public as a new model from Ferrari. It was painted burgundy and had a "natural" interior. The car currently lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is the first prototype GTE, completed 15 June 1960. Before it as an "ante-prototipo" was s/n 1287 completed 02 May 1959 and tested for nearly a year before Ferrari decided to go ahead with production of the series-built GTE.
