This got started today partly out of watching the auction and pebble beach TV shows, partly out of actually driving the single mirror today in honor of our new friends who ask about driving one every day.

Here is my simple question -

Given (almost) unlimited money - let's assume something like money to have a 430 Stradale or some such -

What would it take, and how would you go about getting it, to have the VERY BEST single mirror Testarossa in all earthly existence? Would you -

    a) just undergo a super-expensive restoration on the car you have (I mean with local talent and a lot of hard labor)?

    b) send it to Italy for Ferrari Classiche? (and lie to the wife on the prospective cost, provided it even got accepted)?

    c) just trade/buy up and get a better/lower miles car than you have now by the power of the bankers checkbook?

    d) show what you have with a little spit-shine and a healthy dose of BS?

Please take the idea seriously - I think I may want to try to play this game.

So - what does it take to own the very very best single mirror of all time?

    James

    All of the above.

    1. Find the lowest mile original car you can
    2. Send that car to the best specialists. Best body guy, best interior guy, etc.
    3. After that, send it to the Classiche for a detail. You don't really gain anything, but now you can state "factory restored" (IF they don't screw up the previous workmanship)
    4. Put it in a sealed climate controlled bubble.
    5. Go get a driver for fun.

I have plenty of blanck signed cheqaues, but I would like to have the car itself back...

So, I am taking part D.

I already have the very best single mirror in the world - now show me I am wrong!

I would think that there are three completely different scenarios:

If the intent is to have the best "1986" Testarossa then the car must be the best original low mileage, paint, interior, engine, maintained, etc. Cars are only "1986" once, consider this car a thoroughbred.

If the intent is to employ current restoration technologies then you must seek out the best shops in the world and have the car restored into the best 1986 Testarossa in the world. Consider this car restored.

A third scenario could be to employ current technologies. Then you must seek out the best technologies like ceramic brakes, better stereo, seats, wheels, etc while restoring this car to be the best. Consider this one a 2008 Modifacto, in 2009 or shortly thereafter another better one will always be built.

Depends on your preference and checkbook.

Another approach would be to go out and hunt down the #1 serial number car...that might be worthy of an unlimited restoration... :)
