Not much of a project, but never the less needed done. I thought the glass on my rear view mirror needed replaced so I took it apart, not realizing there is a piece of clear glass over the mirror. When I took it apart the clear glass launched and broke into a few pieces. But I discovered the mirror was fine and only the inside of the clear glass needed cleaned. I cut a new piece of glass and painted the body and frame, so now it's good as new.

I did the same thing myself. On the gt4 the double stick adhesive pad is the same as on a 914 porsche

What brand of paint did you use? It looks nice and I have to do the same project soon.

Just watched the video. How awesome is that?!?! I just love that sound -- particularly at idle, it could only be a Dino engine!

    God bless you.

just wow.. i spent the past two hours looking over this entire thread. I must say this is going to be coming out better than ferrari could have ever made it due to the period it was made. My hats off to you! You really give me inspiration to take on that 32 Ford i have always wanted to do.

I also just found this thread. Had never seen it before and holy F'ing Sh%$!!!!!!! OUTSTANDING JOB. When I started reading the thread (like 3 friggin hours ago.... it's a good thing that I really have nothing else to do with my life), the impression I got from Jon's original post was that he was just a guy in his garage with a craftsman toolbox trying to do a little bonding with his son. BUT WTF! Jon, you are a PRO in every aspect. Your attention to detail and documentation is mind boggling. I can't even fathom how you had time to take all the pictures and label everything. It would take me more than 24 hrs a day just to do that, never mind actually work on the car also! It's jaw dropping impressive and I do NOT get impressed easily. Maybe like 4 times in my life that I have been impressed and this is DEFINITELY one of them. I can reasonably assume that you do everything in your life with this much detail and focus and that is why you are able to afford such a project and equipment. Hell, it looks like you spent more in Ferrari flags, banners and stickers than I did on both my F430's LOL.

If the world was a project that could be completed and 1% of the population had the focus, motivation and attention to detail that you have, It'd be done already! Project world = done..... now we can all just lie on the beach and drive Ferraris until we die. Very inspiring.

great job Jon! I know it's only a car but it's people like you that inspire, motivate and for lack of a better term, B I T C H slap the rest of us lazy bastards. I feel so motivated now, I think I am going to put an addition on my condo... maybe a porch off my balcony. :D

The engine has now been run about 10 hot/cold cycles. It seems to run well and no oil or water leaks. We fiddled with the carbs and everything seems to be working well. Jeff and I decided today was the day to put the engine in. We took off the rear headers, oil filter and support, heat exchanger and bracket and distributor cap. It was very nerve wracking as it dangled above the car and then tilting the engine at about a 45 degree angle and slipping it in. It cleared by about an 1/8 of an inch. It would of been much easier if I would of taken off the front headers, but wasn't sure how difficult it would be to put them on after the engine was in. Anyways all went well, no scratches or dents. We felt like we were putting the heart back in the body today. All is well, at least today.

Jon did you use any special paint code for the matte black portions on the car? Or just regular satin black? I have to paint the matte black portions of my car...

    Looks incredible....

Must have been as stressful as when my car was on the dyno that day. Glad to hear everything went well. Car looks fantastic.

P.S. to 05F430F1: Well, Jon's got you beat on the building an addition part too. In addition to the Dino, Jon's also building his house (and guess what, he's using only hand tools, cutting down the timber he needs by himself, casting his own metal for the faucets, spinning the copper for the water pipes, etc.). Clearly, the rest of us are mere mortals. Repeat after me: We're not worthy, we're not worthy, we're not worthy.

I think if I could be someone else for a little while it would be either Bono or maybe Jon when he finishes this car and drives it for the first time. This thing is awesome and I love watching it come together. Absolutely brilliant work IMO.

I'll drive weekly. I go to one show a year (not really judged) just sort of a clean car type of thing. It's with the Ferrari club of San Diego. The event is held on the harbor with a great Italian lunch. Last year they invited Lambos as well. I'm sort of trying to have my car done for that. I think it's usually March or April. But if I don't make it there's always next year.

It looks like you're going to make it. She is really coming together quickly. I guess the x-factor would be the upholstery though...
