Extra debris protection, I'd presume. I haven't missed mine, though.

Oh man, you guys are a bad influence - I feel a project coming on! :D

Anybody have any opinions/experience with the Aerocharger turbochargers? Apparently does not require tapping into oil lines, bypass valves or wastegates. Hmmmmm.....

But is there a risk that the first you'd know about it is if the engine lets go due to a bit of debiris getting in? Or is it practically impossible for this to happen?

A pleated air filter will filter out debris in the range of 8-9 Micron's in size (?, pick a number, a human hair is about 170 micron), a screen down stream of that with a .025 (?) gaps in the weave is of little use in filtering debris unless you have a very active mouse living in the airbox.

There has been much debate regarding the reason that they were initially installed. I still am of the minset that they were put there to slightly slow the airflow to more accurately measure the density. The high performance O/S units do not have the screen and run software that compensates of a partial reading resulting from an oversized unit. Regarding the high performance units, performance is the prime objective with those, accuracy at low and mid flow is a secondary concern to what happens at high flow.

Tuning a street car is the ultimate excerise in compromise! What are you willing to live without?

    Do you know Koenig-Specials?

    They tune 348's also:
Koenig-Specials Twin-Turbo engine: complete engine conversion with 2 turbo-chargers, additional oil- and gearbox cooling, intercoolers, modified motronic, turbo-pistons, including disassembling and assembling of the engine /output ca. 382 Kw, 520 Hp, 500 Nm/.

    Just an idea, bye :)

    I have 340bhp from a stock 348 2.5motronic :) (nearly)

The only mods I have are some mild race cams from a 348 Le Mans racer that crashed on its first lap in 1991, and quicksilver exhaust.
The only real way to get extra air in the engine is with uprated cams. The ecu learns the settings and adjust the fueling accordingly. I'm tempted by 8 throttle bodies and a ECU chip change to see what I get.
