Fiat is considering bringing the new 500 to the United States in the next couple years, according to a new report. Unveiled last year, the 2008 Fiat 500 will go on sale this summer in Europe. It is expected to sell out through the end of next year. Similar to the Trepiùno concept car, the new Fiat 500 will be produced in limited numbers, even when it arrives in the United States in 2009 or 2010, according to Automobile magazine. The car will initially be offered with engines delivering between 59 and 100 horsepower. A range-topping 150 horsepower model has also been rumored, and it would likely be the most popular U.S. model. There are concerns over where the 500 would be sold, with Ferrari/Maserati dealers currently the only possible venue. With Fiat's Alfa Romeo division set to return to the U.S. market around the same time, it's possible the company could set up joint Fiat/Alfa dealers. http://www.leftlanenews.com/fiat-500-coming-to-america.html
I would love to have one...I wonder what dealer network Fiat plans to use? ... hopefully not Ferrari or Maserati...
This has gotta be fun! http://www.worldcarfans.com/9070917.011/fiat-500-abarth-ss Larger pic, almost a wallpaper http://www.worldcarfans.com/9070917.011/superphoto1/fiat-500-abarth-ss Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gee...the way everything is going these days in regards to driving costs and fuel costs, GM should have bought FIAT and forget the 2 billion dollar penalty they paid to FIAT, to get out of the deal. The little 500, is just what GM, needs and so does the American driving public, for a small efficient family car. Just my opinion. Ciao...Paolo
Official 500 or aftermarket engine/handling work? I can't wait for Abarth to create a mini-monster out of it. I love it!!
Supercharger? Now you're talking! I'll take mine with an electro-magnetic clutch and a 3-postion switch, on/off/auto
They're racing the 500 at the Australian Grand Prix: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/02/fiat-500-to-hit-the-track-in-australian-gp-support-race/
I sat in one in Amsterdam. Neat little car... if a little too Nissan Micra looking, i.e. bloated. Interior pretty good on higher spec models. Would make a great yummy mummy city runabout.
I have the brochure in front of me. My wife went to look at one this week. They do look good and the one we sat is was red which looks neat, she is also considering a Mini and has been for two years!
HI does anyone have any info on the abarth version of the 500? in particular the "essess"? i read the web stories etc.. they are all speculation, does anyne have some insight/inside on the specs? dates? etc... elad
Would be nice to see these in the United States, but somehow I think the barrier of setting up a dealer network would be too tough. Just saw Super Unleaded at $4 a gallon today in San Diego; makes me wonder a little about the lack of small and fuel efficient cars . . . oh well. Anyway, just thought I would throw in a pic from a few years ago of an older FIAT; seems that there are a few in southern California. Ciao! I bought one for a bit of fun and picked it up yesterday. It's certainly proving to be a popular car and Fiat have just increased production capacity to 190,000 cars a year. I can feel a trade in for an Abarth is on the cards when they are launched here later this year Image Unavailable, Please Login
