I've bought a number of new Ferrari's from my dealer, all at sticker price. 575, Stradale, (2) 430 spiders among others. I've also sold every car through them. 575, (2) Modena's (2) Stradales among others. I expressed my interest in a Scuderia months ago. Today I got an Email from my dealer suggesting I would have to pay $200,000 over sticker to get one. What kind of crap is that. If that's the case I'm done with their games and will go back to Porsche where you walk in and get treated great and can actually buy something. Loyalty means nothing to Ferrari.

Welcome to the realities of market based pricing.

Are you feeling like you're not getting any love? :(

Sad to say, but I think we're seeing the real side of Ferrari.

I heard from my dealer that a Scuderia is harder to come by than a 599, which is still extremely hard to get at MSRP.

Well, with Porsches you just don't get the appeal, a lot is still in the name badge. I can't remember the last time anyone said "Nice car" to me in my Porsche and I drive it everyday.

In just short 6 days ownership of a 360 Spider I lost count how many times I have heard "Nice car". Neighbors that never wave of talk to me actually stops by and come look at the Ferrari, and wave at me. You drive on the street hoodlums will raise the thumbs up to you, and wave and say nice things to you.

Amazing! And this is only the 6th day.

What i don't understand is why are dealers being allowed to sell new cars over sticker now? I haven't run into this problem until now. None of my cars including my recent 430 was not over sticker. Is Ferrari allowing their dealers to do this now?

Apparently some are just doing that. I heard from a person who had purchased multiple Ferraris from his dealer at MSRP that it'd cost him at least $100k over MSRP to get a Scuderia during the first year, from the same dealer.

Sure is nice to deal with a factory store, where they sell to their customers at MSRP.... even now.

I understand that the dealers are now allowed to sell at "market pricing." At least here in Houston, it has allowed people that would otherwise not be able to buy a car new to get one. The "market adjustment" here on ordering a new F430 (NOT Scuderia) is $40,000 over MSRP. Prior to buying my F430 (a 2006 not a new one), I went to the Porsche dealers here to ask about getting (1) a GT2, (2) GT3RS, (3) GT3 and (4) Turbo. Was told they were unavailable and all allocations already sold. I figured the GT2 and GT3RS would be tough but a GT3 and regular turbo?? That really shocked me. I just made it easier for me to rationalize dealing with this type of "can't get one" with Ferrari by getting another Ferrari :)

I heard it's whatever the market will bear now.

    Loyalty means nothing anymore.

    From what I heard.

FNA has tacitly given approval for dealers to sell over MSRP. They just got tired of seeing the prices gotten after a new car is "flipped".
This comes from a reliable source. I bought 7 Ferraris at MSRP. Not anymore. It's "whatever the market will bear".

I understand -- even empathize -- with what you're saying, but there exists plenty of Porsche dealers who subscribe to market pricing for models like the GT2 and the GT3RS. If those who predict the coming bloodbath in our economy are correct, will it affect demand for luxury items, like Ferrari?

Or does there exist core buyers in the U.S. who will continue to generate heated demand for these cars? Stated alternatively, are the days of new Ferraris gathering dust in the showrooms behind us for good?

I would enjoy reading the commentary of Dr. Who, 410SA, RBK, and others regarding this oft repeated issue. :)

At least you guys still have balls to play with, unlike in some countries which buyers have to rely on "gray market" when need new-model Ferraris!!!

Well..... If that's the case, why did I just have to sign a no flip agreement (which I did) for a year or forever be barred from ever being able to buy a new one at MSRP...... ever again??????

I'm not sure what you want; but, here goes:

Once upon a time, in another place, far, far, away, the good ole USA accounted for 1/5 to 1/3 of Ferrari's annual production.

    No longer.

With the dollar down, ROW demand up, whatcha gonna do?

Ferrari is a business. A business must strive to maximize profits or it will die. If those of us in the US can no longer lift our leg high enough, there are those in the rest of the world who can.

That's insane! I love the 430S but when you really think about it, $450k for what is essentially the Ferrari starter model, modified. No thanks. I'd go with a F40, CGT, Saleen S7, LP640 Spyder, and on and on.....

You are correct (in my opinion) that it is insane. It's completely stupid and pisses me off that the 599 is $500K on the market too. That being said, If I were a dealer I would charge whatever I could for these cars. It is a business. It's what it is.

Since the San Diego dealer has not been there long enough to account for your purchases, are you referring to Newport? I chose to sell my last and buy my newest Ferrari from Newport, but was discouraged by them to hope for MSRP in the near future. If you prefer just address this in general terms "further north" or pm me. Bsst

Theres no need to be upset about it. It is what it is. There obviously is enough people who want the 599.......and the Scud bad enough that they will pay whatever it takes to get one. But I must agree, that at those lofty prices..................there are lots of other alternatives.

The U.S. is no longer alone, i.e. China, India are examples of emerging markets with less DOT/EPA requirements permitting easier production and higher profits. Secondly, historically "brokers" working with "individuals" within dealerships would arrange for a "sale" and immediate "flip" of a car. For example, I personally "bought" a Enzo (owned for 2 days) purcahsed for around $600,000 sold through the broker for $1.2. million. I suspect FNA , as well as, dealers watched this with some degree of frustration. In part, besides simple greed, eliminating this (secondary) market, Ferrari could regain "control" of its products. Although, fewer are able to buy at MSRP, at least within the U.S., we are driven by a "market" economy, i.e. supply and demand. Clearly, anyone producing a product has the right to charge whatever they want and as buyers, we can choose to pay it or shop for another brand. At the moment, with a recession looming and more "product" on the shelves, including cars, I suspect "demand" will decrease and the market will continually soften. As this occurs, the same market forces will drive prices down, except for very exclusive products, i.e. Scudaria, because they are difficult to get and require few (wealthy) buyers. Best

I remember Ray Johns recalling during the tech and telecom boom the 360's were selling for almost 100k over sticker too, so this isn't anything new. I know many of you have more money than patience, and this instance it's just going to cost to forgo the waiting game. It's just against my constitution to pay over sticker for something that is already a luxury priced item.

Porsche has never charged me over sticker for any car I've purchased from them. And you're right, you don't get that kapow factor driving it or from the general public. Porsche is a fantastic car, just as common as flies (GT notwithstanding). I can certainly understand your frustration.

It's not going to get any better either. Ferrari is a master at creating demand and controlling supply (the same thing really in the opposite order). Patience can save you $$$$.

    Cheers~

The dealer asking for $200k over is one thing. Someone paying that price is the insanity. Again, with that kind of money you are getting into the supercar category; cars in a different league. As we can admit the Z06 can perform with the best of them but it is still a Corvette, we should also recognize that the S can perfrom but it's still a 430. It's no supercar! Let' keep this whole 430S thing in perspective.
