Like you, Dave, I've taken advantage of current classic Ferrari valuations and traded my old 330GTC for a new 430.* Having owned it for sixteen years, I did feel a little guilty as it was a bit like disposing of a family member - you may curse them briefly, but you wouldn't want to live without them!
However in the end reason, modern technology, reliability and practicality won out over emotion.* Now my wife and I will have the world's best sports car for our touring adventures in retirement!*
I wonder if anybody else out there sees things as I do and plans on trading an old Ferrari for new?

I would trade my 360 for a nice Dino in a heartbeat. I would love to own one of those.

They are great cars in their own right, and a beautiful (Maybe the most beautiful) car Ferrari ever built.

They are not, however, always a joy to drive. And at 5'9", I was pushing the limits of leg and head room.

Interestingly different reactions to the cars. Dino would produce stares and questions, along with admiration for its looks. So far the 360 mostly gets a thumbs up, but I've gotten some pretty dirty looks too, something I never got with the Dino.

I remember the first time I saw a 360 in the flesh. I had just sold my 355 F1 GTS-a silver car with a carbon roof insert that I had picked up from Algar new, earlier that year-and I was Ferrari-less. The event I attended- the US unveiling of the 360 (or at least its East Coast unveiling) involved 400 horses making a lap of the dirt track at the Meadowlands, followed by the car itself, speeches by all the Ferrari bigwigs and lots of glamour. I remember the pangs I felt there, in the near 100 degree heat as I marvelled at the motor under glass and the advanced styling. (As you know, I have owned a number of other Ferraris since then, but never a 360).

The car looks absolutely fetching in that color, Dave. Welcome to the modern Ferrari experience. (I also wonder what happened to those early coupes with the sunroofs- remember those weird triangle shaped hatches that were only on the first cars and discontinued? I saw one at the time, also in silver with a somewhat disconcerting green leather interior, and think back on that car now as an interesting sort of oddball critter).

Drive that sucker in the best of everything,

Interesting to hear about the Demodifications Dave...

No plans for the Challenge grill or shields though? I hear Mrs. E60M5 does a bang up job on shield instillations. :D

    Dave:

Welcome to the "new" Ferrari. The 360 is an absolutely great car, and yours is beautiful..... You'll note how just about everything works exactly the way you expected it to work. I really like the looks of the 360 over the 430 (but then I liked the 355 better than the 360, go figure). It's a very neat car. Enjoy it, use it, they are made to be driven, and driven, and driven.

Ive had the joy of doing B2B, in those cars and although the 360 that spec to, was the car that made me fall in love with Ferrari, I enjoyed the dino more.

Congratulations on the new ride. what kind of equipment does it have.

I remember when I upgraded my 328 to a 360. The 360 is such a great mix of style, performance and just plain fun.

I loved every bit of my 328 ownership but my 360 took Ferrari ownership to another level.

    Enjoy and be safe.

    Regards,

    Stew

Here on the East Coast, the weather is my greatest obstacle to enjoyment right now.

I'm not like a lot of owners, I'm more than happy to roll the car around in the rain, but snow is another matter.

Cold weather is also not conducive to great grip, as I learned the other day. No damage to the car, just a little slippage in the turns.

Modulating the throttle is going to be the biggest adjustment. The dino is point and shoot, full throttle, the 360 certainly is not.

Well, some of the fun is in the learning. :D

But Dave, you only mean full throttle until you hit the 35 mph back-road speed limit, no? :)

Hi Dave, I just caught up with the thread. Congrats on the car. I got the same color 99 with the F1 and shields that I like very much. Titanium is the best color IMO.

I've been driving it the last three days. Warm the tires or slide.

I think those are challenge grills in the front aren't they? I have them in the front but no grill in the rear. That's the look I like. I also have a bunch of stereo stuff to get rid of. Custom rack in the front trunk for amps and a sub woofer box with five speakers that is where a golf bag could go behind the seats.

I'm really looking forward to getting that setup out of there.

    Enjoy!

I have the rear challenge grill, must say I think it improves the rear end appearance, I have to be honest, I don't know what the front challenge grill looks like.

As to the stereo. My front trunk has 800 watts of amps, 500 for the subs 300 for the speakers, along with some kind of fancy equalizer with a ton of flashing lights and some other doo dads that I don't understand at all.

Behind the seats is a really nice custom cabinet full of speakers and sub woofers. It even has a custom embossed leather wrap on with with 360 Modena carefully inlaid. IT is a real nice setup, I just don't want it in the car. The stereo sounds fantastic, but who listens to the radio anyway. It'll come out in the spring.

Right now the only real issue I have with the car is second gears seems a bit balky. More on upshifts than downshifts. All of the other gears are buttery smooth. This will be something I address with the dealer before the 60 day warranty passes. And the gas gauge only reads 3/4 full when topped up.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Congrats, brother! She's beautiful! That's a fantastic color for that car. And thanks for the opportunity to drive the 246 a few years back. With the prices those cars are bringing now, that was probably the only chance I'll ever have of driving one and I'm glad I did! :)

We have no issues!!! Simple disagreements. All in the past. Thanks, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Although I may have to bump up the mileage limits with the insurance co. :D
