In the vintage section, in the 275 barn find thread. Post #5 says the Raab book lists the first owner as Sofia. An interesting entry. A search hasn't revealed anything. Surely Sophia/Sofia had a Ferrari. Does anyone know?
According to gaggi she had a 1965 275 GTS http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=110038&postcount=53 http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/Detail/7287.275.GTS.htm
Here it is; "The 275 GTS has been originally delivered in Italy to the famous actress Sophia Loren. The car has been in in a major european collection since 1989. It still has its wonderful all original interior in near to new condition. The engine compartment has been carefully refurbished and a new service has been carried out. Today the car is in outstanding condition, ready to be enjoyed. It has Ferrari Classiche certification." http://www.classicdriver.com/it/find/4100_results.asp?lmanufacturer=10042&whatbutton.x=0&bsubmit=true&lmodelflag=12222&page=0&lCarID=1758696 Image Unavailable, Please Login
We used to work on an early black Daytona in Seattle that was owned by Ms.Loren. The owner had Italian documents showing her as the original owner, I've often wondered how she had the strength to parallel park a Daytona! Cheers Da Flav
Thanks Wade. Many thanks go to Chris too, for those lovely photos. After seeing Wade's post I actually remember seeing that photo. I wonder if the Daytona was really owned by her. I can just see her driving the convertible. Can't you?
Gregg, my apologies for not thanking you earlier. If the owner had the papers, I'm sure she was the original owner. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others.
BRAVO SOPHIA! Those fotos do you justice. I remember when I was a kid, 7 years old, my Mother took me to see a movie, about Greece, she was from Greece, called, "BOY ON A DOLPHIN." When Sophia, emerges from the water, to the boat, she has a nail, from an an ancient ship, in her thigh. She was helped into the boat by her friend, and this is her, in the wet-shirt, as pictured. I remember my Mother, saying "Don't Look!" That's when I fell in Love (lust), with Sophia. Still remember that moment. Sophia's Ferrari's. She has had several, and Mercedes-Benz's also. When she had the big tax scandel, for non payment of her income taxes, with the Italian Gov't., and went to Prison, if I remember correctly, did she lose the Ferrari's? Anyone know how she is doing today, health and wealth wise? I know she raised her family and is a proud Grand Mother. Still one of the most beautiful women in Acting, and on the planet too. I'm having a rough day, healthwise today, but Sofia, has taken the chill and warmed my heart, at least. Thanks for the Sophia post! REALLY! Maybe the threads can be combined in the Vintage Section, if anyone wants to keep it going, Sophia and her cars? Ciao...Paolo Yassou...Sophia!
One of the reason why there should be a time machine ..imagine dating her and her Daytona somewhere the Amalfi coast in the 70's ..Id be a very eager student !
+1 .... Somewhat rather better preserved than a certain other erstwhile 50's / early 60's sex symbol - B.B. She even featured in last year's (2007) Pirelli calender: http://thegarageblog.com/garage/sophia-loren-to-be-featured-in-2007-pirelli-calendar/
Glad that I was able to help. It was late and I couldn't sleep but found a lot of nice distractions while searching for her Ferrari Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A 275 GTS. . . . A 365 GTB/4. . . . .....and Sophia....... All true Classics. . . . . . . . .Sometimes (often, actually), I think I was born in the wrong era. Throw in Audrey Hepburn, and I'd be pretty content.
anybody else picture her in the convertible Ferrari, wearing a thin a sundress or short skirt, no panties, and driving spiritedly on the winding back roads? i bet the original seats alone would be worth a fortune
