Anyway, because of different things and comments I've seen in various model threads I decided to start a new thread specially about reviews and comparisons of various models. It would take me a little time but stay tuned for it.

Bought my Mondial today on Ebay! Thanks to fellow FChatter "Lucky 13 2002" in Colorodo, I scored it.We will see about the quality. The pictures look decent enough and $27.99 plus $11.00 shipping is fine with me.I already know not to expect CMC quality so I'm still going to be pumped about it.

EXOTO,Replicarz and Speedgear all show them in their catalog/websites but they all are uncertain as to the exact date of availability.

I received my Mondial a couple of days ago and I have very mixed feelings about it.
Here is the scoop. First the good. IMO it is a great model. Body is very well done and so is the detailing on it, even though it is a non Elite. Great job on both the driving and taillights. They are better than on an Elite 288 for example. Window seals are black and it makes a huge difference. Great molding detail for the grill in the windshield base and wipers also. Contrary to many people's opinion the wheel and tire sizes are spot on.Poor in detail, but the right size. Nice interior too. It would have looked better in tan though.
Now the bad news. I guess HW realized that they made a great model and it would be hard to justify paying for Elite, so they attempted to make it extra crappy on a purpose (it is plain obvious). All 3 hoods (there are two in the rear that open) are plastic and not metal and so are the doors. Very cheap and nasty trick IMO. Gives the whole model very light feel in weight. It would have been somewhat OK but on my model this results in one of the doors having slightly off color shadow. All the other parts are fine. I don't know for sure, but my best guess is that it is just defective on my model. The main issue with this is that if you attempt to remove the decals (yes I find them stupid too) you are risking messing up the paint on the doors. So what I did, is leave it the way it is, until an Elite comes out and then I'll keep the Elite and just repaint this one. The worst aspect of this model is the Engine and chassis. Underneath the model is basically a flat plate with net to no detail. It is amazing to see the well made front compartment and rear trunk and then the one (OK maybe 2) piece, all black engine molding. Also the re is no headliner, which judging by the length of the pins that hold the windshield, would be included on the Elite.
Over all. I think it is a great model to be displayed. All of its shortcomings (with the exception of the paint issue, which I believe is exclusive to my example) are noticeable only when handled and opened up. The main difference with Elite would be the Engine compartment and the chassis. I think is well worth the $28, unlike some models like the Superamerica, which I would only pay for in Elite form.

About some people mentioning putting 328 bumpers on it etc. I don't know how hard it would be, but keep in mind that the Mondial 3.2 and the Mondial t(cab) had completely different interior.

I paid close attention to your post, as mine, which is just like yours, is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.I think it is coming FEDX. I'm going to seriously check out the possible mis-match on the paint.I may have a real good way to remove the decals or stickers but I will have to look closely at mine when it arrives.
Based on what you have said so far about your model,it would seem like HW put a lot of effort into screwing things up.I agree with you.It would have been less work on their part to leave a great model alone!

Yep, and that makes them the first company I know that deliberately makes a crappy product. At least most other companies still try...
