Key fob replacemement

I realize that there is no way to replace a key fob without having the codes (something I did not get when I bought my car due to lack of knowledge). That being said, while I have one that works well, I am not one to wait for something to happen - like losing it or it stops working - usually in trhe most inopportune times. Where would be the best place to purchase a new unit (since from everything I read is the only way to get one). The numbers I am hearing is around $1,500 - $1,600 plus installation. Any help would be appreciated,

As long as you have the RED remote, go to your FNA authorized dealer. Take some proof of ownership (title, etc.) and proof of your identiy (drivers license, etc) and they can get a new black remote coded from Ferrari. It's not as expensive as quoted above -- that's usually for a whole new alarm ECU and red remote.

If you only have the black remote, you're SOL; it cannot be used to make copies (to my knowledge).

I saw a red one on sale on Ebay. Not sure but I was told with a red one, Ferrari dealers can reprogram the red one for your car, somehow flash the system with a new specific code for you and make black ones off of it.

 

bought a new set from algar ferrari cost was $600 for a set of 3 (2 black 1 red) and another 150 to program. i had to bring them or fax them a copy of my title showing ownership and then they had to fax it to ferrari of north america. if you had the original red one they can program any 355 fob to match but without the original red with your cars code in they cannot. that was the way they explained it to me. so now i have 3 black ones and a red one in my saftey deposit box. and no you cannot buy just one red master from ferrari. you have to buy the complete set with your original code programed into it. hope this helps.

 

sorry forgot to mention it took almost 2 months to get the new remotes

 

All depends on FNA. I just got a set in 2 weeks. They don't keep each and every part # on the shelf all the time and then there is that little thing about Italy closing shop for a month every summer.

 

If you have the existing code you could but then you have just programmed your car for a code you don't have.

 

Thanks, I wish I had the red one but it didn't come with the car when I bought it. I'm going to try just buying the kit and hope that works. I've had conflicting stories the if I don't have the original code I will need to buy the whole unit and also that I could just buy the three fobs and the new code will come with it which will allow me to reprogram my existing system to the new keys. Would rather pay $600 instead of $1,600. The only thing I am unclear of is while van22 bought the keys from Algar, did you have your original code. I do not so am I only left with having to buy a whole new system?

 

How many digits and/or letters is the code???

4, last time I had them

 

This is the the most smoke and mirrors I've seen in a long time. I have yet to get the same answer twice. I have a 1 red and 1 black fob. I have the secret little card with the 4 digit code.

The alarm system manual states that if you lose a black fob you can go to your Ferrari dealer to get a new 3 fob set.

Called 2 Ferrari dealers. First one told me $750.00 plus programming, takes 4-6 weeks to get them from Italy.

Second dealer - $450.00 and said they have an instruction sheet for programming and could also talk me through it over the phone. Also said it takes 4-6 weeks to get them from Italy.

Both dealers told me they could not get a single black fob, only a complete set.

So tell me, whos on first?

 

I have the red remote and PIN, (I have the little metal tag with 1 letter and 4 numbers, I guess that's the key number) I have a non functioning black remote along with a functioning black remote

Can I re-program my non-functioning black myself?

If so, how?

I can find nothing in the workshop manual about it.

Here's a good write up on how to enter the PIN using the key, or to reprogram key fobs. I'm not sure if this would work with any red fob from Ebay...

Daniel, I thought even if you had the RED remote you still needed the 4-digit code as well to program a new black FOB. I am referring to 355 owners. I thought Ferrari didn't have ALL the four digit codes stored for 355s only 360s on up.

I now have my RED remote and I would like to get another black since I do have one that doesn't work.

 

The little tag you are referring to I believe is the actual key code and not the four digit code for the FOB.

 

That is correct. The electronic code for the fob is on a wallet sized paper card.
