I have to say, as much as they are coming down in value, your numbers are a bit out of whack with regards to the general market. If I could buy a 7k mile 99 550 with no stories for anything below 100k, I'd be pretty happy.

My consultant checked out the car. Mostly good news, but there is a problem on the right front. He says that the issue is something where he can't make the call, but need to defer to me. I am flying up tomorrow to take a look.

Apparently the owner hit a curb and mailbox on the right front. The damage is less than a month old--and we are getting estimates on repairs. Hopefully it is all cosmetic.

Normally, I would just pass and move on to the next car, but the price on this one is very good. So, I owe it to myself to do a little more leg work.

Will report more after we check it out.

The owner was driving and had a mild stroke. The car is being repaired. He remains in the hospital--from the stroke, not injuries in the minor accident.

Well, after months of prevarication I have just bought my 550, and I love it. Yes it will continue to go down in value, but life is not about measuring the financial value of your assets it's about living life.

So my advice: If you can afford it without financial stress go and buy one, and laugh every time you go down the road feeling like a trillion $$.

Here is a photo of the car @ Ferrari of Houston, looked like this the day I bought her, today she is a little dirty as I drive it and have yet to wash her. Although I thought that blue with the crema interior was not exactly what I wanted, must say now that I have this color combination, I do prefer to the classic red/tan. feels like Rob Walker's racing team from the 60's.

Quick other point, I have a GT3 as well, and when I started looking for a Ferrari, I tried a 360 and was very disappointed after the GT3, however the 550 just feels like it is a 'proper' Ferrari as opposed to the regular 8 cylinder cars, so go and buyone if you love driving...

Good show. I'm glad someone finally bought that beautiful, super-low-miles car.
I was considering that car too, but decided against a 550 because I didn't feel like loosing another $20K in depretiation.
I think the title of this thread concurs.
(I hope the dealer did a compression check for you.)
    Enjoy your driver!!

In answer to your point about compression, yes they did (it was great) and a full mechanical test, very realistic on the 'market' price vs asking price as well.
So far I am very pleased, she goes back tomorrow for a couple of minor bits to sort out, so far so good. Bloody good fun too!

Congratulations. I LOVE that color combo; very understated but with enough contrast to be exciting. Sorry to be picky and/or unknowledgable, but "which" Blue is that? And is your interior ALL Crema, or with contrasting dash/carpet set up? Curious because I love it.

For sale at least for a few months already, also on and off Ebay. The year is actually 1998, and it is a European model car. That's why there is no taker yet. So, to answer your question: No, it is not for real.

I have to agree with that! They welcome us Porsche Club guys to come play with them even! I have enjoyed the few things I have been able to attend...being an aspiring F-car owner I wanted to put my foot (or in my case really my wheel I guess) in the door first...

An interesting observation since the perception is you are favorably comparing a track warrior GT3, a car with few comforts to what most consider a GT car (550), not as sportscar-focused as a 360.

    Can you elaborate further?

Actually, it is the water cooled Porsches that experienced the depreciation... the 993s (last air cooled) held their value incredibly well and only up until a couple years ago were selling for nearly MSRP for the best examples. Mid-Engine Ferrari equates to air-cooled 911s :)
