to each their own, but the good thing about traction control is you can also turn it off if you want. you do have to admit that having traction control when driving a high horsepower car in the rain is definitely advantageous (just look at GCD's Ford GT as an example).

 

Rumor is that the Zr-1 outlaps CGT at the 'Ring. And it gets 24mpg.

Say what you want about interior, I'd feel pretty good staring at that plastic dash while having an extra $100k in my wallet.

 

I think we'll see something different here. I think the state of the economy will have the guy ready to spend 300K might now think about spending 100 here, and be pretty happy about the decision in the end.

 

It's also strange that the interior is always an excuse to hate a Corvette, especially this one. I've never heard anyone say, "I'd buy a 308 but I can't see all the gauges because of the wheel, and the dash glare is bad." There are way more reasons to like sports cars. Heck I'd be happy if the new Vette had an aluminum interior, one big tach and a fire button!

 

The Vette is a now a supercar and probably a good value. It is not "Just a Chevy" anymore than a Ferrari is just a Fiat.
Having said that, the looks are "almost" right. Looks OK from most angles, but the fat butt as seen directly from the side is still not quite right. I actually think the interior quality is now passable. GM has moved off their tupperware quality and awful designs of just a couple of years ago.
I am betting that the C7 design will remedy most gripes I have now.

 

GM should have redone the body panels a little, much like the CS compared to the 360. the bolt on stuff just looks sooooooo cheap imo. other than that, the car is a monster.. even more so than the mosterous Zo6!

 

I would bet dollars to donuts the new Viper ACR will walk a Zr1 around the track. Also it's nice have a rare car instead of a car that is barely different than a regular corvette. (In which they make 40,000 plus a year)

Not saying the corvette isn't a great car but you think they would be able to change the body a bit more on the ZR1.

You might be right with that point, at least with the people that stretch themselves for the $300K+ car. I will never understand why a person who can not afford the car outright or mostly outright would purchase a highline exotic but to eachs own. Take LA or NYC for example. Lots of people renting 1 bedroom or studio apartments but driving a brand new Ferraris that they can barely afford. All about an image that I never quite understood.

On the other hand these people might continue to do what they do because of this image. Corvette = Great, Ferrari/Lamborghini = Rich

Who knows. Only time will tell.

No offense but there is a reason that Vipers are $20k less - fewer people buy them! I could have got an 2008 Viper for invoice even before they were officially out (blame woodhouse for that). I love the Viper but at 6'4", I do not seem to fit well at the shoulders. The vette seems to feel more roomy. The Viper's brakes are a lot better than my Z06's but I do prefer the AH since it was a daily driver.

 

if you can't give the zr1 an once of respect, you must live in a LALA Land and watch reruns of Magnum P.I.

i feel like im the only person here who is disapointed by the ZR1...i mean its cool, but WHY OH WHY does it have monoleaf suspension (THE RACING CORVETTES ALL HAVE INDEPENDANT SUSPENSION)....and i really dont get why they are back on the pushrod v8, and than name it after the zr1(which had a dual overhead cam) WTF?...like all i see on this car is a supercharger, and thats really it, its not really new or innovative...


i feel like the whole car industry is stunting itself...the halt on engine development in F1 WHICH MAKES NO FREAKIN SENSE, and than youve got all these yahoo's runnin around saying that its cuz "tire, aero and braking technologies have to catch up" which is the biggest crock ever, everything in those cars is state of the art. and now this...WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Ciriticism of the pushrod design is purely unwarranted; I question you to name another street motor with comparable weight and dimensions that makes anywhere NEAR the power of the LS9.

To give an idea of size, a 7.0 Litre LS7 weighs LESS and takes up less outer volume than a Ferrari DOHC 4.3 V8; with more power, torque, and lower center of grvity to boot. Give respect where respect is due, a pushrod keeps the front of the car low, Center of Gravity lower, and allows smaller external engine dimensions per internal displacement.

 

The ZR1 is an absolute BEAST, I love it, the Jetstream Blue and carbon fiber look amazing

well MITengineer, quite frankly i dont see the point you want to make? are u trying to argue that a pushrod v8 performs better design than a overhead cam engine? if you really are an engineer , i dont think i need to explain to you why an overhead cam performs better. and than about demensions? i understand weight to hp and demension to hp...but i dont get how teh demensions or the weight alone are determining factors of the cars performance...

i dont know what ur classification of a "street motor", i consider it anything thats street legal and can be driven as a daily driver around town. in which case i would have to say that there are plenty of engines that beat the LS9 in weight,demensions, and horsepower....or the ratio of hp to weight....or even demensions to hp....look at the engines kids are stickin in talons, 4 bangers that produce a ton of hp (i saw one that had 750 to all the wheels on high boost, but the kid drove around at about 550 hp when he wasnt doing anything)...

not getting ur point here...i do get the distribution of weight in the engine, however i would say that the pro's vs con's of a pushrod vs a DOHC that a DOHC would win....i give the pushrod's thier respect, they are vintage, but it was freakin time for something new...

as for a comparable engine to the LS9, out of the box, i would say that the Ford GT's engine would be the best contender...

 

And it indeed does. I rather have a 08 Z06 with Moton's, F the SC'd motor which is a C6 motor !

"It's still a corvette", "It's a Chevi" to that I say "Thank You". I like the direction Chevy is headed in. They keep making faster, better handling cars that cost next to nothing to run. The base HP on my 02 ($48,000) vette is 350, today I could get a loaded 08 with 430 HP for around $45,000 (with $6,000 off). I think that the production #s are around 2,000 per year for the ZR1, I bet they sell every one, and I hope that the owners drive them.

 

Corvettes suck donkey testes. This has been proven over and over and over again. They are barely worth the plastic they are printed on. Any cholo can buy or lease one, and they are about as common as pants. They creak and crackle, they can't turn or break [sic.] and we all know that you get discounts at gold chain int'l when you buy one. So who in their right mind would own one? Probablly only the most sexualy deviant homosexuals in the East Village (I can't tell you how many Corvette owners have propositioned Wax -- well actually I could, see Emil's post count for a reference).

So the ZR1, eh? Basically this is the car that will compliment any double-wide! It comes with one free DNA-testing kit to ensure that your gf is not your cousin. It comes in the following colors "alabama white", "jerry springer black-and-blue", and "faster then ferrari red."

You know what they say about Corvettes -- how do you double the value of a Vette? Fill up the gas tank.

Different casting, different pistons, different CR, and the list goes on and on and on. The LS3 shares nothing other then dimmensions with the LS9, other then that they have as much in common as Margaret Thatcher and Chris Rock.

 

A loaded C6 for $45K, are those "CorvetteForum" prices or real actual dealer prices? I'm still looking for that 44K C6 Z that CF has assured everyone is out there.
