Quick Question for you racers

Yes, but rental car companies have an agent at the ring that looks for their cars. And you will be excluded from insurance coverage, and possibly fined by the rental car company (YES the Ring is specifically mentioned by name for exclusion in rental car agreements by almost all rental companies within 100 miles of the Ring)!
In fact Hertz (and possibly other companies) will put a worldwide ban on you from ever renting again if you are caught doing this with one of their cars.

There are services where you can pay much more to rent a sports car for a day FOR going to the ring. I would recommend that instead.

 

Hmm, interesting. I'm actually gonna rent the car in Stuttgart, so the 100 miles wouldn't apply.

Agree on this one completely.

I used to play the ring with Grand Prix Legends. When GT4 came out, I started collecting notes in a binder. It is divided up between various snap shots from overhead and tips to drive particular sections. It helps even when playing it in GT4 because it allows me to know what is coming up next. Knowing what is coming up next helps me know when to really slow down for blind spots if there is a spun car. Of course, this is all what I do to prep myself for driving the ring.

I plan on going this year sometime and there's a few rental places. From what I've read, none of them let you drive on the ring - the ring doesn't prevent you from this, but when you return the car, there might be a surprise charge or two. Instead, find a place that rents cars specifically for driving the ring. It will cost you 250-400 Euros a day, but it will be worth it. I plan on going and renting out a GTi or low end Audi - nothing big on the HP range... certainly not. Not wise, especially if you have never been on a track. I'm not a wheel-to-wheel racer (yet), but I do instruct for HPDE's and have plenty of seat time around a handful of tracks. It is all about the seat time! So get your butt out there and take it out to the track!

The ring... was planning a trip for April/May, but now it is... one day... one day... last night's cat surgery kicked those funds back many months. =/
