    Hi Guys,

I am looking at a Euro RHD 400i in the UK, and need any info I can get on this car, from the serial number i believe it to be an 84. but what i really need is the month of maunfacture so I know how long I need to store it in the UK before I can legally import it into the US. ( 25 year rule).

    Regards
    Richard

I believe 54623, two cars before, and 54629, the car after, were both 1985 cars.
Why would you want a RHD car in the US?

    Thanks Dave

This purchase will be entirely based on price, I have a 308 GTSi now, and thought a unique 400i in the US would be kinda Fun.

Any idea on the build Month? I would imagine it to be quite early as many of the 84s are very close in serial number as well.

    Regards
    Richard

ALL 400's are unique in the US. There are less than 250 here in the states.

Think twice about a RHD car here. You'll have a VERY hard time selling it.

Sorry I really have no idea on month, but you're right the 1984 to 1985 cutoff was within 10 cars of this one.

Richard, read up a lot in this forum. You'll discover there IS NO SUCH THING as a cheap 400 series Ferrari.

I also can't see how a UK 400i could ever be financially attractive to anyone paying with dollars, considering the nearly 2:1 ratio of British Pounds to the dollar. Unless the car is a backet case, which, in that case, there are plenty of basketcases to be had already here in the US.

And yes, silly Brits driving on the wrong side of the road. :) Car would be very hard to sell here, unless it was going to a RHD country.

    Thanks Dave,

There is no such thing as a cheap ferrari anything....lol

Luckily I have a very good shop, a complete set of tools, and just few enough brain cells left to take on such and undertaking myself.

My 308 will be restored by approx June and I am really just looking for another resto car to play with in the future, the car is pretty much complete, but I would tear down the engine and give it a real good once over to make it an excellent driver, not so concerned about the show car status.

I am also looking ahead and looking to see where the market may also be heading, there are many right now who believe the 400 series cars are going to make a big move in the next few years. and a RHD Euro Car makes it all the rarer. Only 239 RHD 400i cars made total from 79-85, So i'm guessing only about 30-40 made in 85, so statistically that probably leaves 20-30 1985 RHD 400i left on the planet. (let me know if I am way off base here).

    Regards
    Richard

    Hi Richard,

Is it a manual or an automatic? And which colour combination if I may ask?

    Thanks and ciao,

    Lars
