drain antifreeze from block

Jim,

That's the only one i saw when i drained mine.

What you should do, is in the front access panel there is a small rubber line that runs into the aluminum pipe, go get one of those Antifreeze package deal things and there should be a "T" in there.

You cut the rubber one, make sure you have a 5gl bucket to catch the big gush of antifreeze, and place the "T" in between. You now have a drain plug for next time.

BTW When you unscrew the one on the block it will make a big mess cause it falls on the exhaust and all over the place. Be prepared, cause there will be alot in there.

TIP:
In addition to Chris's tips, you should:
1)After it's drained awhile, remove the coolant reservoir cap
2)Remove the thermostat bleed bolt (or just loosen it if you've got one of my EZBleed bolts).

 

How much are your ez bleed bolts Verell (saw your 11/07 post reply on coolants)?
Do you have a picture of one?

 

I'm changing the coolant but now i have a problem:

No drainplug in a F308 QV 1984, how can you drain the coolant out of the block?
starting the engine for 10 seconds?

Drain it from the heater hose located on the bottom front under by the battery tray. It's the one connected to one of the main coolant pipe, it's about 3/4" or 19mm. This is also one of the lowest part of the cooling system.

Thanks, i did that already, after the pipes/radiator draining i did the block draining, i found it, it was the upper bolt (no drainingplug)

another 2 gallons coolant out of the engineblock!

 

The local chain FLAPS will have a funnel with a long neck, just right to wdge up against the block under the drain fitting. Stick an old length of heater hose over the neck, you can drain it right into any convenient container.

 

I used to go this route when draining the block on my 328 but even with the long narrow funnel I found it to be a messy affair. I got sick of the mess and modified the existing drain plug by putting a petcock drain through it. Now draining the block is super simple.

Could you please tell me the size or a part number for the petcock?

 

My apologies Kurt, off the top of my head I can't remember what brand/size of petcock I used. My notes are all down at my Dad's machine shop where I performed the 'surgery.' If there's any interest from the Fchat community I can see what it would take to get some more of these made up. I think the biggest challenge might be getting spare drain plugs. I remember at the time I tried to purchase two from Ricambi in the event that I messed up but only one was available for purchase.

The inline petcock is included with the Dave Helms hose kit, if you are replacing your hoses.
