Dino Restoration

What i think we should all remember is that these are shims and were fitted to dial up the right caster angle in the suspension. They will all be different given the different combinations you can have and the accuracy of the chassis set up in the first place.

One shim represents about 1 deg. So if you dont know the combination, fit 2 and 2 and then do yourselves the biggest favour and get the whole car "4 wheel laser aligned" They must have the chassis shims (items 7/1 above) before they start otherwise they cannot do the job properly, so enquire beforehand.

On the subject of getting the shims back in, Jon is right they dont fit very well after powder coating but it isnt that difficult. I inserted a piece of M10mm threaded rod between the rear holes with washers and nuts on the inside to act as a spreader. Then wind out the nuts carefully to spread the arm which will allow the ball joint and shims to slide in the front bolt. Once in place, undo the spreader and continue to slide the shims and ball joint so they align with the rear holes. Some anti seize compound on the shims before works fine and stops the bolts shims from seizing in the future.

did you purposely rebuild the trunk to be squared off on the outside portions? they should have extra storage area unless you decided to eliminate that

just FYI - I had the new starter installed - No problems with the shield due to the added clearance in the Euro model (no header spacers). Boy what a difference - a well worth modification!

My car has them, and they are original. Who wants to see the coils, etc. when you open the trunk???

Where did you get that awesome Dino bag?? If you had it made, can I order one?????

in my dino's, you don't see the coil. there is a curved fiberglass piece that bolts on and is covered with the trunk carpet. on the other side, you can see the antenna, and on both sides, there are fiberglass inserts covered in heavy felt (like on the underside of the trunk lid) that slide into the body work that creates a pocket for storage.

all my cars have the same basic configuration. i have never seen these inserts before. can you post photos of what they look like and how the slide in?

 

But can't until the weekend... the car is at our country house napping!

 

Ithink the left side is only half covered with a storage well, as you describe. The right I am pretty sure goes all the way back, but has a lot of space at the back end...

Congratulations Jon and Jeff. The car looks great in that blue color. The metalic is just right. Every curve has light. God knows what it will look like with another polish and all the trim. Great picture of the two happy warriors.

that shot of father and son says so much..all the dedicated effort,swet and concern for detail is rewarded and shows with those smiles...knowing that you two have accomplished and shared a total milestone restoration for posterity [on this site]...a family heirloom was created...i am sure that all who have followed this thread share and feel that pride as well...just bravo and cudos!
